Former Rep. Trey Gowdy has declined a request from the White House to represent President Trump as the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry moves forward, according to a report.
Gowdy, a former GOP representative of South Carolina, was approached by the White House this week as potential legal counsel for Trump as he prepares to fight against an impeachment investigation stemming from a July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to a report from CNN. But Gowdy appeared to have turned down the request a short time later, according to Law & Crime.
"NEW: Trey Gowdy has declined to represent President Trump after the White House began a search for outside counsel during the House impeachment inquiry," a tweet from journalist Travis Akers said.
