MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — More than 20 law enforcement officers were called to Tech High School in St. Cloud Wednesday to stop a fight involving dozens of students.Police say 16 students are not allowed back at school until the police investigation is over.Penny Pancerev has two daughters that were at St. Cloud Tech High School.“The first text I got was my daughter saying we’re on lockdown,†Pancerev said. “Your heart jumps because the first thing you think of is a school shooting, and then you hear that there’s a fight.â€One of her daughters was just feet away, but says she doesn’t know why it started.
A fight broke out among students at Tech High School in St. Cloud on Wednesday, leading authorities to detain several students.According to the St. Cloud Police Department, at 11:59 a.m., a St. Cloud police officer assigned to the school was on scene and responded to the incident. Due to the number of individuals fighting, about 20 officers were sent to the school.Tech High School took security actions and put the school into lockdown. As of 1:22 p.m., the school was still in lockdown, according to police. However, the department later said the high school resumed regular activities at about 1 p.m.Officers remained on-scene for the remainder of the day.Police said 16 students were detained for being involved in the fights. They were eventually turned over to their parents with charges pending for their involvement. Police also said the students have been suspended and school officials won't allow them to return to school pending the results of the investigation.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (FOX 9) - Officials in St. Cloud, Minnesota said they've learned more about the large fight that broke out last Wednesday at St. Cloud Technical High School.According to police, the fight appears to have started between two 16-year-old boys who had an issue with each other from a previous fight that occurred off school grounds.The two boys - each accompanied by numerous friends - engaged in a mutual fight in a hallway in the school. This initial fight led to three more fights within a 10-minute period, involving the same students, all taking place at various different hallway locations. The number of students fighting grew as the friends now started to mutually and willingly fight each other. None of the altercations took place in any of the classrooms.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — St. Cloud police say criminal charges have been filed against 19 students involved in a large fight that prompted a lockdown at Tech High School on Sept. 25.The Stearns County Attorney's Office says it has charged the 19 students involved with an array of charges including: riot in the third degree, aiding and abetting assault in the third degree, terroristic threats and dangerous weapon possession.
