Ukrainian president says he is unlikely to release Trump call transcript

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, says Kyiv is not planning to release its transcript of a telephone call with President Trump that is at the center of an impeachment inquiry.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, he also said prosecutors were unlikely to open an investigation into claims made against Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

The White House last week published its version of the July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelensky, a popular former comedian who took office two months earlier.

It showed Trump asking his counterpart to look into the former vice president and his son, who sat on the board of a Ukrainian gas company.

Zelensky told Reuters it would be wrong to release his own office's transcript. "There are certain nuances and things which I think it would be incorrect, even, to publish," he said.

Zelensky also said Kyiv would not investigate the Bidens solely at the request of a third party.

"We can't be commanded to do anything. We are an independent country," he said. "We are open, we are ready to investigate [but] it has nothing to do with me. Our independent law enforcement agencies are ready to investigate any case in which the law was broken."
