Port Houston continues growth in cargo
« on: September 27, 2019, 11:28:50 pm »
Houston Chronicle by  Andrea Leinfelder Sep. 27, 2019

Port Houston continues to see an uptick in cargo, thanks to a bump in steel and shipping containers.

Port Houston Executive Director Roger Guenther this week reported a 7 percent increase in cargo, to nearly 30 million tons crossing Port Houston docks through August, and an 11 percent increase in 20-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, a common industry measurement for containers, to nearly two million TEUs. Guenther expects Port Houston will approach three million TEUs by the end of this year, according to a news release.

Port Houston operates, manages or leases eight public terminals, with more than 70 docks, where cargo such as containers and steel are unloaded. It's also the local sponsor of the federally maintained Houston Ship Channel, meaning the it helps with the management and environmental stewardship of the waterway.

And this week during the monthly Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority meeting, commissioners approved an up to $5.5 million contract for professional services for the engineering, design and project coordination of widening and deepening of the Houston Ship Channel.

No wonder why the fruitcakes from out of state decided to shut down the ship channel.

Like all libs, they seek to drag the successful down to their level rather than try to succeed on their own merits.
