Alas, we've been in the Twilight Zone from the moment we realised that the 2016 presidential election was going to pit an unscrupulous crank against an unscrupulous crook. And no matter who won the race, it was going to be three things---further big government, further degradation of the nation's political culture, and a lot of goddam nonsense.

Completely agree.

If one would have told me in 2015 that those on the right side of the aisle would have sunk this far by 2020, I would never have believed it.

But, alas......... here we are.   **nononono*

I didn't stay home.  Not voting for Trump does not equate with lack of Patriotism or presence of lethargy, @DCPatriot

It does equate with a lack of rational, strategic thinking and the presence of self-absorption.

Careful there.   A lot of us that didn't vote for Trump in 2016 will probably still vote for him (against the rats) next year.   Do you really want to insult those of us in that category?   You really think that's smart?  (rhetorical, all)

Now, look, you could have said: "that may not have been your intent, but that was the effect" instead of going full-on attack.  As Xenalee points out, there is no good in alienating those who could be allies in this existential battle.

I didn't stay home.  I voted for a Conservative candidate for President and voted down ticket all the way.

Not voting for Trump does not equate with lack of Patriotism or presence of lethargy, @DCPatriot .

It would behoove you to stop making that accusation.

(And please don't ping me to your false accusations.  If you have something legitimate to discuss, I welcome it.  But dopey insults, not so very much).

@musiclady

Never insulted you.

Included you in a group of 'Principled Conservatives' here that despite every attempt, have refused to support our POTUS.

And in that group, I determined thru life experience that some are lying when they say they voted...just not for Pres. Trump.

Stop playing that Church Lady bullshit with me, too!   I'm sick of it.

Bullshit!

All thru the campaign, the media did their damnedest to create more @musiclady 's and @roamer_1 's, et al.

And don't tell us all of them voted....still taking the time to stand in line, etc., to vote 'down ticket'.

They stayed home.

People seem to have forgotten the toxic environment in 2018, the over-the-top 24/7/365 breathless reporting: “Russian meddling; Russian election interference; Trump worked for Putin; traitor Trump!” Have we forgotten?

Of course the democrats were lying to Americans, especially their base; of course they were able to nurture and mobilize deluded and angry voters against the president—who by any measure of effectiveness did great, conservative things in just 2 years.

That’s why @DCPatriot @Right_in_Virginia @truth_seeker , myself and others were so pissed that some republicans and conservatives (many of them right here) played into the mass hysteria and joined democrats’ talking points by parroting them right here on a conservative forum.

Most of them already claim to not be registered Republicans.

Beginning to wonder what kind of childhood...what kind of life did they have to not be able to fully appreciate the essence of Donald J. Trump on the political scene today.

If he survives, he will stand taller than any US President ever!   And the Founders would certainly agree with me.   (A Republic if you can keep it!)

Instead they fret and worry about his personal proclivities.  And don't forget the Tweeting....    /s

Those who support presidents under a threat of impeachment have always argued it "wouldn't be good for the country" to impeach him regardless of precisely when such proceedings might or might not begin. By its very definition impeachment isn't a good thing, for either country or the subject of impeachment himself. Nobody (well, nobody with two genuine brain cells to rub together) really wants impeachment even in the case of an unpopular president, even in the case of a president who has committed impeachable acts. Call it a constitutional grant of a necessary evil if you must.

We shouldn't ever think of impeaching a president just because we don't like him. But if there's a prospect of his having committed impeachable acts, damn the timing or un-timing, let's find out once and for all and take it from there, however unpleasant. With apologies to Bob Dylan, even the president of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked.
I haven't said a word about whether I myself want President Tweety impeached.

But whether I like a president has (and should have) absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with whether he has committed acts that make him impeachable. If indeed he has behaved impeachably, let it be so. If he hasn't, let it not be so.

It's that simple.

But, it damn well should have mattered to you whether the democrats were subversively trying to disenfranchise republican voters by leveling false claims against a republican president and trying to illegally impeach him!

I live in wonderment, about people that think leaders must be perfect.

Usually great leaders, are flawed too.

Gen. Curtis Lemay, Gen. Douglas MaacArthur, Gen. George Patton serve as examples, for when the benefit of their leadership, far exceeded the cost of their flaws.

@aligncare
I'm still trying to figure out which portion of this sentence I wrote escaped you: If indeed he has behaved impeachably, let it be so. If he hasn't, let it not be so.
(Emphasis added for clarity.)

As for Democrats versus Republicans or Republicans versus Democrats (or let's call them what the Wall Street Journal has long called them, Depublicans and Remocrats), whenever either of them held power they both tried disenfranchising each other's voters at various times. Let them kill each other for all I care.

Because what I care about the most is what they care about the least.

And I care about freedom, what's left of it here and abroad.

I care about individual rights and responsibilities.

I care about a properly-construed government, whose sole legitimate business---other than protecting and defending us from enemies actual and provably iminent from abroad and predators at home (real predators, if you please, and not mere vicemongers)---is to stay the hell out of your business, my business, everyone's business, until or unless one would obstruct or abrogate another's equivalent rights.

I reject, as Depublicans and Remocrats alike do not and have long not, what we've had too long---the improperly-consecrated State that sees fit to poke its nose and extend its tentacles into just about every last ounce of everyone's business despite the fact that it is neither competent nor constitutionally sanctioned to do so.

I registered as an independent voter long enough ago. I proudly voted "None of These Candidates" in 2016, and I did so only because Nevada doesn't allow a write-in vote. Were I allowed a write-in vote, I would have written in Groucho Marx for president, on three very solid grounds above and beyond my rejection of a choice between arsonists (one with a book of matches, one with a blow torch) to fight the fire consuming the country's house:

1) Groucho Marx once said, "Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it, and misapplying the wrong solutions." Which showed more political wisdom than anything ejaculated by any actual or alleged presidential aspirant two years ago or amidst the current menagerie. (In today's politics, the secret word is schmuck.)

2) As Artemus Ward once suggested wisely enough, "If we can't find a live man who amounts to anything, by all means let's have a first class corpse."

3) If the dead can vote in Chicago, the living shouldn't feel shy about voting for the dead.

"The question of who is right is a small one, indeed, beside the question of what is right."---Albert Jay Nock.

Good posts
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

@EasyAce I think the problem is that if someone still thinks there's a chance that Trump did something impeachable in this call, that's a problem.  The evidence that we have now says very clearly that he didn't and that the issue is being used illegitimately and with malice.  I think the frustration is because there's a time to sit on the fence and there's a time when that's clearly the wrong thing to do.

People seem to have forgotten the toxic environment in 2018, the over-the-top 24/7/365 breathless reporting: “Russian meddling; Russian election interference; Trump worked for Putin; traitor Trump!” Have we forgotten?

Some people also have forgotten the role Ryan played in this toxic environment in 2018. Beyond lying about the House legislative agenda, he announced in the first quarter of that year that Republicans were going to lose the House, resigned and encouraged others to do so also.  He put the Republicans behind by 41 seats from where they would have started in the mid-term election of 2018.

Ryan, drenched in swamp mud and tied at the soul to Mitt Romney, is still at it.  He's now sitting on the Board of Directors of the Fox News Network encouraging Fox to "do something" about the President.

One thing the corrupt deep state, and the Clintons (who even the deep state fears) know is that the President knows exactly what's been happening.  They will do anything to stop him.   If the President wins reelection in 2020, I predict there will be more Epsteinian ends.

More on Ryan here:  http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,377123.0.html

Many of us believe the left knows damn well Trump didn't do anything like what they've been accusing him of these past three years but are using nonstop accusations of scandal culminating with "impeachment" as nothing more than a means to drive down the president's approval rating and render his administration ineffective. A belief based upon facts at hand to date.

What happens if absolutely nothing comes of ANY of it, the only result being the Trump administration was unable to  function as effectively as it might have but for all of the time he spent defending himself. Wouldn't that have been grossly unfair to his supporters?

The left lives in a fantasy world. They can't even figure out if they are male or female. Their "truth" consumes them though they can't actually define what it is, all regardless of objective fact staring them in the face.

Where are the Republicans who will stand up to him on this? Trump famously—and grotesquely—boasted during the campaign that he could gun someone down on Fifth Avenue in broad daylight and not lose any voters

I am not a Trump fan, never will be, but how many times has that been taken out of context. If memory serves me, it was Trump mimicking/mocking what democrats said about him (and if we are truthful, what we conservatives said about Hillary)... Trump was making a joke, not a statement.
