At that point, the NoKos had almost entirely overrun the Korean Peninsula, except for the area around Pusan, at the end of the peninsula. Landing at Incheon bypassed and cut off much of the NoKo army. Besides landing where not expected, Incheon was farther north, making escape more difficult for the NoKos.
