DOUGLAS MURRAY: How did the world lose its marbles? A new dogma has turned beliefs that once seemed common sense into hate crimes. If you say the 'wrong thing', you'll be thrown to the wolves...

We are going through a great mass derangement. In public and in private, people are behaving in ways that are increasingly irrational, feverish, herd-like and unpleasant. The news is filled with the consequences. Yet while we see the symptoms everywhere, we don’t see the causes.

Various explanations have been given, usually involving Donald Trump, Brexit, or both. But these explanations don’t get to the root cause of what is happening. For beneath all the day-to-day madnesses – over race, sex, sexuality, gender and the rest – are much greater movements and much bigger events. Even the origin of this mass derangement is rarely acknowledged. This is the simple fact that we have been living through a period of more than a quarter of a century in which all our grand narratives about our existence have collapsed.

It's a tale of a road taken/not taken by Man.
The Fertile Crescent, including the Euphrates&Tigris, Levant
and Phoenicia, were the essence of the Cradle of Civilization.
They began structured agriculture and animal domestication
around 7,000 BC as cultures/societies developed.
Over time, Assyria, Babylon, Sumer, later Greece and Rome emerged;
spawning the High Middle Ages, next the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
That spanned some 9,000 years during which Man's moral order was
anchored by Natural Law which dictated a compass for right and wrong.
Further he was filled w/a powerful religious sensibility which heightened his
spiritual awareness.
This is confirmed by the Art Man produced over this time period, whether it be
Architecture, Literature, Portraiture, Sculpture and many more.
Then the Enlightenment dawned whose catalyst was the betterment of Man's
condition/existence through materialism.
This altered the previous dynamic forever and for the worse.
Anyone challenging this, contrast the Art produced before the Enlightenment
w/that produced after it.
We have not lost our marbles; rather we have lost our souls.

Well, some how, some way, I still have my marble.

Singular.

The world lost its marbles, the left never really had any, and the right . . . well . . .

Murray also wrote a book, "The Strange Death of Europe", which is interesting.

A review and discussion of it can be found here:
