I know there are some hard conservative NT'ers who oppose Trump because of a belief he has been insufficiently conservative. I disagree with them, but I respect their position as being policy-based.
What I don't get at all are the people like Boot -- referenced in that article -- who openly state that actual policy is less important to them than removing Trump from office because he's offensive/unfit. And just to be absolutely clear about what I'm criticizing (and it is NOT everyone who refuses to vote for Trump), Boot titled his article "Here are 14 Reasons I'll Vote For Any Democrat Over Trump," and said "“I will vote for any Democratic nominee, even Warren or Sanders, despite my profound disagreement with their far-left agendas.â€
That's just jaw-dropping to me. So he'd vote for Pete Buttigieg, who has openly stated his support for packing the Supreme Court by increasing the number of justices to 15. Boot would prefer the banning of cars, and stifling of political free speech by the FEC targetting conservatives, and repeal of Citizens United, and the elimination of the individual right to bear arms under Heller, and the mandatory federal financing of abortion on demand, open borders and the mass legalization/granting of citizenship and voting rights to people who came here illegally.
He's fine with all those things -- many of which will be irreversible -- because they all are less important than Trump's personal moral failings.
That's just mind-blowing to me. Again, for conservatives who see Trump himself as being wrong on a policy basis, that's a different story. I get that. I just don't get the people who openly subordinate core principles of liberty to Trump's personal moral failings. I can't see how those two things are even on remotely the same level of importance to this country.
