Actually, human beings lie and are mean. It's part of the phenomenon known in Christian tradition as The Fall. However, it is more likely that someone on the Right will notice that this is a universal phenomenon and not attribute it only to political opponents than it is for someone on the Left, because the Left is grounded in a secular version of the Pelagian heresy, and fancies themselves to be leading the way to the perfection of humanity where lying and meanness will be abolished, while the Right (which is simply a more or less useless term for "opponents of the Left") includes people who actually have a reasonably well-formed understanding of human nature (and are thus suspicious of all concentrations of power, esp. in the hands of the state).
