Kirsten Gillibrand drops out of presidential race

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) announced Wednesday she is dropping out of the presidential race after failing to qualify for the September primary debate.

"I know this isn't the result we wanted. We wanted to win this race," Gillibrand said in a video posted to Twitter. "But it's important to know when it's not your time, and to know how you can best serve your community and country. I believe I can best serve by helping to unite us to beat Donald Trump in 2020."

The clown car is emptying out, I suspect in a month or so, it will be down to Biden and Warren.

Gillibrand was handed Clinton's Senate seat, and like Clinton seemed to expect that the nomination would be bestowed upon her with no effort on her part. Also like Clinton, she's probably still trying to figure out why things didn't go the way she expected.

She would never have been a contender, she's as light as a feather.

So light that she may have to fend off the occassional-communist for her Senate seat next time it comes up for election...

That kind of precludes Gillibrand from blaming her failure on the unwillingness of voters to embrace a woman as their party’s standard bearer. Rather, her problem was espousing a version of ‘women’s empowerment’ that was condescending, overly-rehearsed, and tethered to a conception of political femininity that exists primarily in the upper-rungs of the Democratic operative sphere.

Gillibrand’s campaign personnel often donned pink attire, as did the candidate herself, which is kind of a stand-in for the superficiality with which she approached her feminist-based appeal.   ...

With her sad withdrawal this week, Gillibrand has managed to accomplish the unusual feat of actually looking worse off politically than when she launched her campaign.  ...
