That is my understanding too.  The Committee is not a necessary step, provided 50 Senators plus 1 Veep agree.

She has no plans to retire.  She's definitely resilient and perhaps the next justice won't be appointed until after the 2020 election.

That's my take on it, too.  This endless discussion of who it should be, and what will be the circumstances in the Senate, is purely hypothetical talk that is not unlike a dorm room bull session.   :shrug:

Of course it is hypothetical.   But the schism among posters about how to address a possible vacancy is a metaphor for how to advance the interests of conservatives.   Do you go for what you want or for what you need,  in the context of a change election where the other side appears ready to go all in with a candidate pimping socialism and race war?
