When I first became a member of this forum there was a picture of Ronnie as the header, I don't remember my comment but I said something not so flattering about Ronnie and I was quickly chastised.
I often think conservatives today cherish and cling to the folklore of Ronald Reagan
@libertybele not the reality of his administration.
Reagan was optimistic and captivated audiences with wonderful stories; he knew how to work a microphone. He gambled on rebuilding our military to bring the Soviet Union to its economic knees, and he won! He cut taxes to spur economic growth and it did; but it also brought with it the start of the national debt --- spending was not cut under Reagan or since. He used tariffs to protect American industry.
Reagan's greatest gift to the nation was the sense of optimism, "can do" American pride again.
It just seems to me if one is a "Reaganite" one is also a natural "Trumper", not his enemy; especially since our current President is stronger on protecting our sovereignty and the American worker.
No President is perfect @Right_in_Virginia I look past (not approve) some of Trump's broken promises and could vote for him in order to stop the radical leftists, but IF he indeed follows through with red flag laws which tramples on several of our rights, I cannot and will not vote for him. As I stated before, to me, at that point, he's no different than the bat crap crazies across the aisle.
I understand your frustration with the promises not completely fulfilled, yet. But where you see an analogy with "bat crap crazies across the aisle" I see them as the opposition and resistance stopping the President at every turn with the help of their buddies on the bench. I've seen great effort from this administration and some pretty terrific thinking outside the box to get things done. Rather than not voting for him, I consider a better strategy not only voting for the President but straight Republican.
As for the red flag laws being talked about, we don't what they're going to look like. Every discussion right now is speculation. But, I ask you this: If Ronald Reagan had been in the Oval Office today, after decades of random mass shootings, do you think he would be compelled to try and end them, to the best of our "can do" spirit?
