US intends to prevent Turkey invasion into Syria
« on: August 06, 2019, 11:25:23 am »
TOKYO (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Tuesday that the U.S. intends to prevent any unilateral invasion by Turkey into northern Syria, saying any such move by the Turks would be unacceptable.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened an imminent attack in the northeast to push back U.S.-allied Syrian Kurdish Forces. American and Turkish military officials have been meeting in Ankara to try and negotiate a settlement to avoid the invasion, and Esper said Tuesday that he believes they have made progress on some of the key issues.

An earlier story was posted but that's fine. That's what we get for me trying to post a number of stories.

Former VA. representative Tom Garret is currently over in that area of Northern Syria:

If the US allows Turkey a "safe zone" in N.E. Syria, the only people who will be safe are the the thugs of #Erdogan.  There's no excuse to abandon N.E. Syria to Turk aggression like in #Afrin.  Brave allies like @PolatCanRojava
 and @SyriacMFS
 and @SDF_Press_1
 deserve better.

And Wladimir is actually over there full time as well:   https://twitter.com/vvanwilgenburg

KOBANI, SYRIA - As tensions between Turkey and Syrian Kurds increase, the United States seeks to play a mediating role in order to keep the focus on combating the remnants of the Islamic State (IS) terror group, a senior Syrian-Kurdish official said.

In an interview with VOA at his base in northern Syria, Mazloum Abdi, the general commander of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said his group hopes that the U.S. will play a major role in calming the current escalation in northern Syria.

So, a lot of good stuff to look at to keep informed.

If things get heated, we can sticky this. I can't imagine us fighting Turkey at this point. This has been in this situation for some time actually, not Turk troops at the border but a lot of the rest has.
