Opinion | Tulsi Gabbard’s Syria record shows why she can’t be president
By Josh Rogin
Columnist covering foreign policy and national security

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) talks often about her January 2017 trip to Syria, when she met Bashar al-Assad, toured Aleppo after it had been reduced to rubble (by the Assad regime), and interviewed Syrian civilians and the regime-approved “opposition,” who unanimously told her Assad was a better option for Syria than the “terrorists.”

But Gabbard never talks about her other trip — to the Turkish-Syrian border with a group of lawmakers in June 2015, when she met with authentic opposition leaders, victims of Assad’s barrel bombs and members of the volunteer rescue brigade known as the White Helmets. Their stories, which don’t support Assad’s narrative, never make it into Gabbard’s speeches on the campaign trail.

Listening to Gabbard, one might think the United States initiated the Syrian conflict by arming terrorists for a regime-change war that has resulted in untold suffering. But Gabbard knows better. She has heard the testimony of children who have been maimed and orphaned by the actual murderers, the Assad regime, but she chooses to ignore them.

Trump launched airstrikes on Syria 2 times.

Israel has bombed targets in Syria about 50 times in the last two years.

Europe has been flooded with refugees for 4, 5 years, even some making their way here.

No way do I see Assad as some innocent partner here.

This is the most objective evidence possible.

Syria has been a designated state sponsor of terrorism since 1979,

The suicide bombers who killed 250 Marines pretty clearly must have come through Syria and probably with some Syrian assistance and yes, that was from Hafez Assad.  Bush 41 probably shouldn't have enlisted Syria's help to invade in 1991.

Where do Hamas and Hezbollah get weapons and missiles to fire into Israel? It seems they must travel through Syria, that's why Syria has gotten hit so often, weapons arsenals.

Indeed.
Most are oblivious to the reality that entities like our State Dept are run by
political frauds and hustlers whose first impulse is to dispense humanitarian
aid so they'll be labeled "good guys'' whether it makes any strategic sense or not.
This brainless policy as been repeated all over the world since WW2, some 75 years ago!!!

See, and this was said about Obama too and said here. Okay, it's a complex matter and yes, some of our arms probably did fall into the hands of ISIS, so probably did some Russian arms, etc.

Says that under President Donald Trump, "not only have we not gone after al-Qaida ... our president is supporting al-Qaida."

Tulsi Gabbard cites US arms sales to Saudi Arabia in falsely claiming Donald Trump supports al-Qaida

By Tom Kertscher on Friday, August 2nd, 2019 at 11:46 a.m.

At the second Democratic presidential debate in Detroit, U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, a major in the Army National Guard who was deployed to Iraq, accused President Donald Trump of helping al-Qaida.

"The problem is that this current president is continuing to betray us. We were supposed to be going after al-Qaida," Gabbard said about Trump and the organization that was responsible for the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.

"But over (the) years now, not only have we not gone after al-Qaida, who is stronger today than they were in 9/11," she said, "our president is supporting al-Qaida."
