Justin Trudeau makes historic visit to Canadian gay bar

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau geared up for his country's Pride Weekend by stopping by a gay bar Monday night, surprising customers there — and making history, according to local reports. Trudeau may be the first prime minister to visit a gay bar, but this is not his first display of support for the LGBTQ community.

In 2016, he became the first Canadian prime minister to march in a pride parade. Trudeau was seen waving rainbow flags, dancing and taking photos with parade attendees in the streets of Toronto, BBC News reports.

Vancouver is gearing up for #Pride weekend right now, but the spirit of pride and inclusivity is strong here all year long! Thanks to the folks at @fountainheadVAN for the warm welcome today. pic.twitter.com/vQWgTUG9xw

MacDougall: Trudeau is a known quantity; Scheer isn't. Which one will Canadians trust?

In politics, there is nothing more frustrating for a team member than watching a leader publicly fumble with a problem.

Whether it be the Conservatives struggling to shake Mike Duffy’s imprint during the last government, or Justin Trudeau’s top table being crushed by the weight of the SNC-Lavalin scandal during this one, the impotence a partial observer feels while witnessing a familial car crash is both utter and complete. All the bystander can do is grin and bear it (and avoid microphones).

Because when scandal strikes, it’s not the average backbencher or even trusted Cabinet minister who is tapped to craft the response; it’s the prime minister’s aides. If you’re not in that small circle, you’re not getting much of a say in how the government defends itself. Which is a shame really, seeing as the prime minister’s unelected advisers aren’t part of the government, or on the hook when the next election comes around.

Like England/UK, I think in Canada, a lot of the "social issues" are off the table.

Trudeau's top advisor accused Indian PM of trying to 'screw' Liberals during 2018 trip: book excerpt
The book by National Post columnist, John Ivison, sheds light on the trip that seemed to mark the end of a Liberal honeymoon period with the Canadian public

OTTAWA — Justin Trudeau’s longtime adviser Gerald Butts accused India’s government of trying to “screw” the Liberals to help his Canadian Conservative rivals during the prime minister’s controversy-ridden trip to India.

Trudeau’s visit to India in early 2018 was widely panned because of his dressing in traditional garb; the invitation of a convicted attempted murderer to high-level receptions and the lack of official duties among other issues.

“‘We walked into a buzzsaw — (Narendra) Modi and his government were out to screw us and were throwing tacks under our tires to help Canadian conservatives, who did a good job of embarrassing us,’” Butts is quoted as saying in a new book by National Post political columnist, John Ivison, Trudeau: The Education of a Prime Minister, scheduled to be released next week.

Okay, whatever, it's hard enough to keep up with US political controversies without getting into Canadian ones.

How many of them shouted "NORM!" when he came in?
Anyone who isn't paranoid in 2021 just isn't thinking clearly!
