And that brings us back to what Trump said. It was decidedly lacking in political correctness.
The president reminded Cummings that his obsession with impeachment has consistently neglected his constituents. Today, most of them find themselves back in Hell’s little half-acre, missing out on the rewards of the robust Trump economy. These poor souls reside in Maryland’s 7th Congressional District in Baltimore, a city whose murder rate FBI estimates put at roughly 56 per 100,000. That’s one of the highest death tolls and murder rates among America’s big cities.
Another presidential tweet embedded a video by conservative commentator Kimberly Klacik. She’s an African-American member of Baltimore County’s Republican Central Committee. The video illustrates the squalid conditions in West Baltimore. They more closely resemble conditions in hellholes like Mogadishu, Somalia than what we should see in a historic American city like Baltimore. After all, this is the city whose stand against the British in the War of 1812 inspired our national anthem.
If only Cummings felt as passionately about the plight of real people as he does over imagined threats by imaginary Russians. Russians whose imaginary agents, with Trump’s imaginary aid, deprived Hillary Clinton of her imaginary historic presidency.
For his acerbic observation on Cummings’ failings in Baltimore, the usual suspects reflexively labeled him as – what else – a “racist.†The left attaches that moniker those who dare to notice that cities and regions controlled by Democrats are reverting back to the plague-infested, urban precincts of medieval Europe.
