Xi Jinping is a radical communist, probably second only to Mao.
The difference is that the economy Xi inherited is in much better shape
Xi can now afford weapons and influence to take the South China sea, control of northern India and now, Hong Kong.
Make no mistake about it, Taiwan is coming.
Xi Jinping is not the "cuddly" China leader of the past. He uses the 6-7% growth that they've had for a decade to modernize their military and intelligence operations. The sooner we cut our economy away from theirs, the better.
The only issue Xi Jinping has is that China's citizens now expect modernization. I worked in China for three months in 2016. They used to dream of eating meat once a week. Now they get that and dream of owning a car instead. So if the Chinese economy can no longer sustain the growth its had recently, the Chinese will be very angry.
