Why Media’s Normalizing of White Nationalists Matters

In 2016, a bunch of real-life white supremacists—not just Republicans who happen to disagree with the Democrats’ preferred immigration policy—put together a conference in Washington, D.C., to attract attention. All kinds of major news networks dutifully showed up, because legacy media has something of a symbiotic relationship with the alt-right.

White supremacists get to feed off of the preposterously outsized coverage they are given by histrionic journalists while journalists get to use white nationalists to smear Republicans.

In its report on the conference, NPR—which made sure to note what was implicit in most coverage: the Republican victory had given this once-fringe movement a “jolt”—noted that maybe 300 people, “split nearly evenly between conference attendees and protesters of the conference outside” had been on hand for the event. So maybe 150 people.

The intent of the lib media is obvious. They would like to tie in average conservative Republicans with the far right racists like Spencer, and then drop the bomb on all of us....because "hate" has to be stopped. But only conservative hate, of course.
The facts are white nationalists, like Spencer, only represent a tiny percent of the right, and the damage they do is minuscule.
But liberals desperately want the public to believe this tiny group of haters is doing far more physical harm than they actually are.
Far left thugs like Antifa are ignored. Everybody to the right of center is now a Nazi.

The MSM and Dems need to hype neo-Nazioid thugs to make them look like a significant threat and thus a useful bogeyman. Kind of like the dishonest tarring of Pro-Life people with thugs like Paul Hill and Scott Roeder.

Exactly right.  And I don't put anything past the RL re: what lengths they will go to marginalize, eliminate and/or destroy those of us on the right... ie their opposition. 

Did you see the movie Jericho?   My biggest nightmare is that they'll copy that movie's plot and make a move with nukes against American cities.... and then blame the "far right" as an excuse to disarm and round us all up.   Or try to, anyway.

I can't imagine why anyone would be a WN today.  The obviously horrible ideology aside, the fact that being branded a racist, a nationalist, white, and worst of all: a non-victim in today's climate makes one of less value than a mosquito and ickier than a maggot.  The idea that a whole bunch of people are out there deliberately putting themselves into the "scum of the earth" category beggars belief.

Maybe they figure... what's the difference.   Since... the radical idiot left will just label anyone that dares to disagree with them and their political bent....and that happens to not identify as a minority... as a "white nationalist" anyway.  Maybe it's their way of thumbing their nose and extending an index finger to that same RL that labels those of us on the right, that are proud of America, as "Nationalists".

In time, you will be branded a "nationalist" simply for being white.

By then, what difference will being called a "white nationalist" make...?
