Maybe I was hoping he'd steamroll congress on the issue, but it's true he hasn't. He's stuck to the system he's Constitutionally constrained by.

But he has continued to plow ahead under the limitations laid out under the Constitution and I guess I'm willing to give him credit for persevering, where you are not. In fact I'd give him more points for consistency than almost any president in my lifetime.

Everyone knows that the Border is in Crisis and there is a humanitarian crisis.  So the Republicans push a 5+billion humanitarian funding bill which includes money for lawyers for the illegal immigrants.  More money to take care of rising numbers of illegal immigrants.  Nothing in it to stop this from happening.  Next year probably more billions to take care of illegal immigrants with no plan to stop them from coming.  Waste, waste and more waste.  That is the bill Trump pushed.

He does have the power of the pen.  He never has to sign legislation that doesn't include funding to secure the border.  But he has.  He says I will not sign another...……….and he does.  He shut down the government just to open it with nothing.  How defeated we were when Mulvaney was being interviewed and saying he was negotiating for 1.3 billion during the shut down.  Nothing, got nothing.

And not only that but he signed the bill that gave local governments the option to opt out of wall.  He also signed to allow illegal immigrants already in the United States to sponsor children (teenagers, some with ties to MS-13 already) who come alone.

NOT WINNING!

And then he has that great conversation where he tells all the people at the rallies that he is building the wall.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

And it turns out that he can’t.  And his vaunted negotiating skills?   If he’s so damned good, why couldn’t he get the wall negotiated through Congress?

There's the money shot... How many times have we all heard it... ONLY Tump...

Read my lips - No new taxes.

Did that win Bush 41 a second term?

Congress passed it, he signed it and owned it.

Yeah.  Typical liberal attack:  you can’t deal with the facts so you attack the messenger.  How very progressive of you.

Yeah, it lost him the election, as I recall it... and if it didn't, it sure gave Billy Jeff Clinton one helluva club.

I share your frustration. I just don't feel like bitching about it all the time.

They'll be plenty of time for bitching if he leaves office and the wall remains unbuilt. In the meantime a little positivity might be good for your health.

It gave voice to Perot, which cost him the election.  He deserved to lose, but did we deserve Clinton?

Good grief people.  Trump promised HE would get a great big beautiful wall built.

Which means he either lied to us, or he’s an incompetent fool who promised what he did not have the skills to obtain.

Steer or queer.  Take your pick.

Truth.  Why doesn't Trump push the idea of using El Chappo money?

Well thanks for your concern @skeeter.  What is bad for my health is opening that tax document that shows my taxes rising.  Knowing full well that a good portion of that property tax is going for educating illegal immigrant children.  Giving them free meals at school.  Government food, housing, legal advise, medical and dental.  Cash assistance...…..etc.  And knowing that they are sending a good portion of the money back home.  They have brand new cars.  Buy mulitiple houses...………………..

They get sick and go to the Emergency room where their bills are dropped.  I go to get a CT scan and make a payment plan.

You forgot the real reason for his 'promise'.   He counted on many to put their trust in him.   He knew he had nothing to deliver.

That's how it goes. When enough of your own are disenfranchised, they wont turn out, and the other side gets the win.

That should be a warning and a lesson, but no one ever hears it.

Read my lips.  No new taxes

That's exactly the point.  Bush said he was against new taxes, then supported and signed a bill imposing the exact thing he said he was against.  A true broken promise.

Now, suppose Bush would have opposed the new taxes, vetoed them, but had his veto overridden by Congress.  Would it have been fair to accuse him of "lying" then?

Because that would be the closest analogy to calling Trump a liar because the GOP Congress wouldn't approve funding for a wall.

Dunno where you're from, but living in California I have more right to be sick about the situation than most. Even with no mortgage I cannot afford to retire in the home where I raised my kids thanks in large part to the illegal immigrant problem. I also know that Trump represents the best shot I have ever known at addressing the problem effectively.

If he leaves office having failed I will bitch as loudly as anyone. In the meantime I prefer to remain hopeful.

No, That was a promise he was never going to keep. And he knew it.
Heck, I would give Geo HW Bush more credit for actually meaning it in the first place.

This entire GIGANTIC waste of time - not this topic, this entire administration - was based upon the premise that all opponents would fall before the great fighter and negotiator... In almost superhero terms. Five years of vomiting has etched it in my mind.

Turns out, it's all bullcrap. Go figger. Who'da thunk it?  *****rollingeyes*****

But now, conveniently, he's nothing but a poor, weak victim...
All y'all gotta make up your minds. Folks are getting whiplash out here.

Yup.  They do not learn.  The "experts" keep telling politicians they have to "expand the base," but nobody seems to care about maintaining the base.  This is how we get crappy politicians like McStain fighting only their base while fishing for leftist votes.

That, now, is more or less the norm. Which is a big part of why the word Republican should never be associated with the word Conservative.

I get that there is only so much that Trump can do to fulfill his campaign promises and that he needs congress to "get 'er done".  But I sill think he could have worked with congress to accomplish his stated goals.   As president, he should have enough clout to sit down with party leaders and say ok, how can we do this?  He might have even been able to hammer out some bipartisan deals -- really bipartisan, not the ones during the Obama era where the Republicans gave the Democrats everything and received nothing in return.

But Trump couldn't even work with leaders of his own party.  From the beginning, he insulted them and blamed them for whatever was wrong.  No one is going to be willing to work with someone who starts out a working relationship by browbeating the people he should be working with.  Much of the time Trump wouldn't meet with them at all, let alone with the Democrats.  The few times he did meet, he stomped his feet, threw a tantrum and walked out when he didn't get his way.  That is not leadership.  That is not getting things done.

When the Democrats rammed Obamacare down our throats, it was a more coordinated effort.  Seemed like, for the most part, they were all on the same page and everyone played a part.  Obama even did his part -- selling this crappy legislation to the people. I didn't see the infighting, the hissy fits, the staged controversies  and the general laziness that plague this presidency and congressional Republicans.  Republicans can't even agree on the time of day.

And I doubt any of them really want to work together.  They really have no intention of keeping their promises to the voters.  Seems to me they all just sit on their lazy duffs and collect their salaries and benefits.    Or at least they did.  Now that the house has been lost to the Democrats and they face a possibly uphill fight to retain control of the senate and even get Trump re-elected, they are all suddenly coming out of the woodwork and pretending that now, they are really going to address the issues like they promised even before 2016.  The theme now is, if we give them continued control of the senate and the presidency and maybe retake the house in a couple of years -- this time they are really going to keep their promises.

sorry, guys, but I'm tired of the broken promises, tired of the fighting, tired of the same issues plaguing this country and everyone pointing fingers at everyone else.  No one is absolved of responsibility.  Congressional Republicans didn't do their part and neither did Trump.

They are guided by no unified standard. Ergo, they will not be unified, except in that which least threatens their positions.

And folks just keep on voting for exactly that.

I agree you do have a right.  But saying nothing about nothing getting done pretty much guarantee's that you can bitch very soon.

This is really nothing new. Back when Lyin' Ryan was Speaker, the budget bill then that was passed specifically stated that no $$ would be allocated for new fencing, only repairs and/or replacement of existing fence.

All these marvelous pictures of border fence and Trump proclaiming that the wall is getting built ... well... it's b.s.

Trump could have and should have worked with Congress when he had the majority in both Houses.  Cruz several times encouraged him to do so ... El Chap to pay for it anyone?    Trump FAILED.  The charade of him calling a press conference with Chuck and Nancy and then closing down the border was a disgrace.  It accomplished nothing and only emphasized the fact that he waited till the last minute to do anything.  Not to worry, Chuck and Nancy got him to sign a bill allowing states to opt out of a barrier.  /s

Well, I did.   I left the Republican Party and I'm not coming back.  Already said many times I'm not voting Republican next year.  I've had enough of the lies and broken promises.  Really wish more people would follow.  As long as people keep voting for them, the Republicans will keep doing as they have always done -- sitting on their fat behinds and doing nothing.
