The patriarch of the bakery has passed on, but am so glad to see the family continuing the fight to pursue justice and cause accountability on the school and its administration.

The Oberlin administration has learned nothing.  Its president in the aftermath of the 2017 hate crime against the bakery was selected due to being a social justice lawyer.  She is a racist bigot who is dedicated to turning America into a cesspool of hate. Here's her latest pronouncement on her website.  https://www.oberlin.edu/about-oberlin/presidential-initiative-racial-equity-and-diversity
Quote
This Presidential Initiative seeks to address issues of violence, police-community relationships, and racial injustices.

In her charge to the commission, President Ambar wrote:

The work of dismantling the vestiges of white supremacy, anti-Black policies, and gender inequality has long been embedded in the promise of Oberlin College. This work in the 21st century, however, looks different than it did in 1833. The work of this commission in part will help Oberlin lead in a moment critical to higher education and to the nation. This commission will work to evaluate our current programming, look broadly across our curriculum in both the college and conservatory, review our hiring practices, and examine divisional and departmental climates to identify areas for mission-centeredness and policies/practices that elevate our long-standing commitment to equity. This work will reflect the times and the issues that George Floyd’s murder invoked. This work is now more critical than ever as we look both internally and externally.

The only key word there is her invocation of "equity" which is a liberal dog-whistle for racism and race-based quotas and a spoils system.  With, most likely, permanent reparations thrown in for good measure.

Simply put, "equality" means equal opportunity while "equity" means equal outcomes.

Not quite.
In todays terminology, "equity" means:
Anti-white.

Remember Fishrrman's dialectic:
You may not be interested in the politics of race, ethnicity and identity.
But the politics of race, ethnicity and identity are VERY MUCH "interested" -- in YOU.

Yes, but more than that, it assumes that free moral agents cannot arrive at an equitable solution on their own - on an outcome that all agree is fair - and therefore that government must always intervene to force an outcome that outsiders consider fair.

It's noteworthy I ripped that from a far-left website that's proud as punch at the profundity of that meme.  Brilliant!!

Watch out. That visit might mean you will receive a lot of solicitations from goonies.  You won't get one from the FBI, though.

In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

Profound chilling effect on free speech?  Nah, but we can hope it has profound chilling effect on slander and libel.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Oberlin College  keeps digging.

Oberlin College Appeals To Ohio Supreme Court In Gibson’s Bakery Case
The Ohio Supreme Court has discretion whether to take the case. Of all the documents I’ve seen in this case, Oberlin College’s Memorandum In Support of Jurisdiction may be the most tendentious, bordering on mendacious.

On May 13, 2022, Oberlin College and Meredith Raimondo filed an appeal in the Ohio Supreme Court, after losing their appeal from the massive trial verdicts. We covered the trial court verdict and appeal decision in Appeals Court Upholds Gibson’s Bakery Massive Verdict Against Oberlin College.

How left-leaning is the Ohio Supreme Court?

Since they only take on 10% of cases filed, maybe it does not matter.

I found this interesting within article:
Quote
Historically the court has agreed to hear only about 10% of the Jurisdictional Appeals filed.

Since Oberlin College does not have a right to have the Ohio Supreme Court hear the case, it filed a Memorandum In Support of Jurisdiction. It appears that under the Ohio Sup. Ct. Rules of Practice the Gibsons have 10 days to file a cross-notice of appeal if the Gibsons take an appeal to restore their full punitive award, and 30 days to file a response to Oberlin College’s Memorandum In Support of Jurisdiction as well as in support of the Gibsons cross-appeal, if any.

Of all the documents I’ve seen in this case, Oberlin College’s Memorandum In Support of Jurisdiction may be the most tendentious, bordering on mendacious.
Mendacious is synonymous with Lying so the court just might not want to hear the case.

And for those asking who is Meredith Raimondo?

Well now, she is the former Dean of Students at Oberlin who profaned the bakery in question as racists after 40 students, mostly black, were caught shoplifting.

Here's her curriculum while she was Dean:
Quote
The complete list of courses in Oberlin’s Department of Comparative American Studies is as follows:

I think President Ambar has confused free speech and slander.  The lawsuit should have a profound chilling effect on slander.  Indeed that, along with restoring the bakery's good name, is the point.  Free speech won't even get cooled off, much less profoundly chilled, by such law suits.
