Russia has dropped all charges against an investigative reporter accused of drug dealing, after a massive public outcry over the case.


In a rare public show of support, Russian newspapers rallied around freelancer Ivan Golunov.

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev admitted on Tuesday that Mr Golunov's guilt had "not been proven".

An internal inquiry was under way and the two arresting officers had been suspended, Mr Kolokoltsev said.

It's an interesting coincidence and nothing more that his name is "Golunov" and the murder-suicide this weekend in DC involving a commerce department official was "Golomova", Lola.  This didn't get posted here I don't think. I don't know what more there is to add to such a sad event.

An official for the U.S. Commerce Department died on Friday in what a preliminary investigation said was a murder-suicide involving her husband, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department reported on Friday.

According to police, officers conducted a welfare check at the couple's home in Northwest D.C. on Friday. When they arrived they found a man, identified as 51-year-old Jason Rieff, with a handgun who appeared to fire a self-inflicted shot while they were on the scene. Authorities said they also found an unresponsive adult female identified as 45-year-old Lola Gulomova.
