Two Canadian women have been abducted at a golf club in Ghana, police said Thursday, a rare attack in a country seen as one of the safest in West Africa.

The Canadians, charity volunteers aged 19 and 20, were taken on Tuesday evening in Kumasi, Ghana's second city, some 200 kilometres (125 miles) northwest of the capital Accra, David Eklu, the assistant commissioner of police said in a statement.

"Police Command is investigating a complaint of kidnapping at Ahodwo, Kumasi Royal Golf Club, at 8:25 pm on 4 June, 2019, where two women of Canadian nationality were kidnapped," Eklu said.

Ghana security forces rescue Canadian women hostages

Two Canadian women have been rescued after they were kidnapped last week by gunmen in Ghana's second city, Kumasi, a government minister has said.

The two students, aged 19 and 20, were working as volunteers for a charity when they were seized.

Kidnappings in Ghana, regarded as one of West Africa's most stable states, are extremely rare.

However, there have been several recently, usually involving ransom demands.

Apparently safe.

Given their ages, it is probably human trafficking related.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

My 1st thought also.  Are they white girls?  Double or triple the value.

Oh, good grief.  They were kidnapped because as rich westerners they could afford to pay the ransom.

"Kidnappings in Ghana, regarded as one of West Africa's most stable states, are extremely rare..."

Until now.

The writing should be on the wall if one is a young, white gal in Ghana, working "for a charity", or otherwise.

I sense that most will not heed it.
