Students raise money to send vets to Normandy for D-Day
By Zack Budryk - 06/05/19 08:29 PM EDT

Six North Carolina high school students raised $25,000 to send two World War II veterans to Normandy for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, according to NBC News.

The students, sophomores at Chapel Hill High School, raised the money through presentations at school events, working concessions at dances and athletic events and with other speaking engagements in the community.

As a result, Jacques Michienzi, 95, who served as an Army Airborne Ranger in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, and George Chall, 96, a combat medic with Gen. George Patton’s Third Army in World War II, were able to visit Normandy with their loved ones this week, according to NBC.
