Italy ULTIMATUM: PM Conte to pledge to FIGHT Brussels as EU budget row set to erupt
Joe Barnes, Brussels Correspondent

ITALY'S Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte will tonight deliver an ultimatum to Brussels as the bitter row over his country’s spiralling debt crisis is set to escalate.

In a national address, he is expected to tell Italian citizens that he will go to Brussels to fight for their future with European Union bosses. The message will also serve a domestic purpose as a warning to coalition chiefs Matteo Salvini and Luigi Di Maio, Italy’s deputy prime ministers. The pair, who lead their respective League and the Five Star Movement parties, have been at odds since forming a coalition government last May.

According to reports in Italy, Mr Conte is expected to say: “I need margins to deal with Europe.

”I will not be the first leader of the European Council to put the signature on a possible infringement procedure of Italy for debt.
