A car-sized meteor came hurtling through Earth’s atmosphere last week, providing a stunning scene over southern Australia.

The “fireball” — as NASA is classifying it — lit up the skies over Victoria and South Australia before crashing into the waters of the Great Australian Bight late Tuesday night, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“The whole night sky glowed a brilliant orange with what looked like a comet with flames shooting from Earth to the atmosphere,” recounted Facebook user Katie Wahlheim, who shared footage of the meteor, along with several others, including the SA Health group.
