Man lights himself on fire near White House

Secret Service responded Wednesday after a man lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near the White House.

The agency said in a tweet that the incident occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. near 15th Street and Constitution Ave., just south of the White House. National Park Service and U.S. Park Police personnel assisted in providing first aid.

Sadly, the past few cases of self-immolating we're veterans protesting the horrid treatment by the VA.  I wonder if this man's motivation is related?

WASHINGTON — A man who set himself on fire Wednesday in a park south of the White House has died, the United States Park Police said early Thursday.

The man was identified as Arnav Gupta, 33, of Bethesda, Md. He had been reported missing by the Montgomery County Police Department on Wednesday.

Officers with the National Park Service and the United States Park Police administered first aid at the scene after Mr. Gupta self-immolated around 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday. He was taken to a hospital, but Mr. Gupta died from his injuries later that day, the Park Police said in a statement....
