Okay, I'm going to sticky this for now...TOS has a thread. I'm not too apt on this but perhaps, some here are and will wish to chime in.

They are voting for EU officials over there or something. I'm not too familiar with the process.

Hungary's Orban hopes for anti-immigration shift in Europe in vote
Krisztina Than

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - The European parliamentary election will hopefully strengthen anti-immigration political forces across Europe, Hungarian right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban told reporters after he cast his vote on Sunday.

“I hope that there will be a shift in the European public arena in favor of those political parties who would like to stop migration,” said Orban, dressed in a dark suit and an orange tie, the color of his Fidesz party.

“We reject migration and we would like to see leaders in position in the European Union who reject migration, who would like to stop it and not to manage it.”

I'm not sure if populist or conservative or right-wing AfD (Germany) or VOX (Spain) are dong that well. Info again, at   BNL    Sounds like Italy is continuing conservative, no idea on the UK.

Anyone can add in stories, I doubt if there are that many fixated on this as of today, Memorial Day weekend... but should something break, we will be here.

Excellent explanation of the EU Elections here:

Centrist bloc to lose majority in EU vote as Greens and euroskeptics gain, early results show
CNBC, May 26, 2019

Key Points

*  The European parliamentary election is the second-largest democratic exercise in the world, with citizens across 28 nations voting for their new representatives.

*  This year’s vote was particularly relevant due to the surge of anti-EU and nationalist parties across the region.

The EU Parliament will be much more fragmented over the next five years with the established centrist bloc failing to gain a majority at this week’s election, early results and projections show.

The initial results on Sunday evening suggested a strong showing for Liberal and Green parties, with euroskeptic groups in France and the U.K. holding the gains they saw in 2014. Italy’s anti-immigration Lega party was also expected to make large gains, according to exit polls.

It means that pro-EU parties will hold onto two-thirds of the seats at the EU Parliament, though nationalist opponents have also produced a solid result. The lack of a majority for the centrist bloc — the center-right European People’s Party (EPP) and the center-left Socialist and Democrats (S&D) which has held power in Brussels for several decades — could further complicate decision-making at the European Union.

[...]

Why it matters?

The European parliamentary election is the second-largest democratic exercise in the world, with citizens across 28 nations voting for their new representatives. Over 400 million people are eligible to take part.

The vote has major implications for the functioning of the bloc and the future of national politics in each member state. The EU Parliament has a say on policies like agriculture and trade and is made of 751 MEPs (members of the European Parliament).

Brussels braces for results as EU election draws to a close
CNBC, May 26. 2019

[...]

This year’s vote is particularly relevant due to the surge of anti-European and nationalist parties across the EU. Projections, before the polls opened on Thursday, suggested that these parties could get nearly 30% of seats at the European Parliament. At the same time, the traditional mainstream majority between the Socialists and the Conservatives, which has led Europe over the last few decades, is expected to come to an end.

This year’s vote will shed light on how Europeans feel about the European Union but will also be a test for national governments.

“The European elections are a big referendum on the governing party. This is the case in France, where the French will have (for) the first time the opportunity to say what they think about (President Emmanuel) Macron,” Alberto Alemanno, professor of European law at H.E.C. University in Paris, told CNBC prior to the election.

Ahead of this year’s EU elections, Macron finds himself fighting the nationalist and Euroskeptic party of Marine Le Pen once again. The recently renamed National Rally (RN) party was slightly ahead in the pre-election polls, suggesting it will be a close call between the two.

There is also a strong focus on Italy and how much support there will be for the anti-establishment coalition; as well as on the U.K., where until recently citizens were not expected to take part in this election, given the country’s decision to leave the EU back in 2016. The result also comes after Theresa May resigned as U.K. prime minister on Friday following a prolonged Brexit stalemate.

Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party set to win most UK seats in EU vote
CNBC, May 26, 2019

[...]

He has promised to challenge Britain’s political leadership and fast-track the country’s departure from the bloc.

The world’s fifth-largest economy is currently due to leave the EU in October, but with Parliament split over the terms of the country’s departure, it remains unclear how — or even if — it will.

Brexit Party ‘getting ready’ for a general election

“The Labour and Conservative parties could learn a big lesson from tonight but I don’t suppose that they actually will,” Farage said, shortly after the Brexit Party was seen winning the most U.K. seats.

“I have to say this, if we don’t leave on October 31, then the scores you’ve seen for the Brexit Party today will be repeated in a general election and we are getting ready for it,” he added.

Le Pen defeats Macron amid Green surge
Macron’s party pointed out that things could have been even worse after 6 months of Yellow Jacket protests.
Politico, May 26, 2019

PARIS — Emmanuel Macron set out on Sunday to beat the far-right and win a popular mandate for his pro-EU platform during a European Parliament election.

He fell short on both counts.

According to early vote estimates, Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally (RN) list is on course to win first place in the election, with roughly 24 percent of the vote versus around 22.5 percent for Macron's Renaissance list.

The National Rally was expected to be at the forefront of a nationalist-populist wave across Europe, in which far-right forces were projected to capture as much as one-third of seats in the European Parliament. Big gains were also expected for Matteo Salvini's far-right League in Italy.

Massive Victory for Conservative Nationalists in European Elections…
Conservative Treehouse, May 26, 2019

<snip>

♦In France Marine Le Pen has defeated the party led by Emmanuel Macron. Exit polls in France indicated that Marine Le Pen’s far-right, anti-immigrant National Rally party came out on top in an astonishing rebuke of French President Emmanuel Macron, who has made EU integration the heart of his presidency (link).

♦In Greece Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is likely to call a snap general election in June, after the opposition party took the lead.

♦Poland’s ruling nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party is expected to come first in the election with 42.4% of the vote.

♦Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, was expected to win 56% of votes, state television reported.

♦Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz leading with support for Kurz’s conservative People’s Party, at 34.5%.

♦In Italy Matteo Salvini’s far-right League is now emerging as Italy’s largest party, and the 5-Star Movement has lost a third of its voters over the course of a year.

♦Chancellor Angela Merkel’s governing coalition, the CDU/CSU, has lost multiple seats now dropping to a projected 28 (out of 96).

♦In the U.K. Nigel Farage Brexit Party is crushing the traditional political classes. With 100 of 373 counts complete, the brand new Brexit Party is in the lead with 31.9%, crushing the two largest parties, Conservatives and Labour, who are down 12-14% each so far.

The video above, in typical leftist spin, claims this was not a very big win for natioalism, but if you listen if turns out to be just that very big win overal.

As always, Europe's multiparty systems make it hard to see that in one glance.

EU Election Results

https://www.battleswarmblog.com/?p=40480

Lawrence Person's BattleSwarm Blog 5/29/2019

Quote
From this side of the pond, the EU election results may seem somewhat baffling. Populist parties gained ground at the expense of centrist and traditional parties, but so did the Greens. This doesn’t fit our traditional left-right political schemas.

In the UK, Nigel Farage’s new Brexit Party captured the majority of EU parliamentary seats. “Mr Farage’s party won 29 seats, the Lib Dems 16, Labour 10, the Greens seven, the Tories four, the SNP three, and Plaid Cymru and the DUP one each.” Those are disasterous results for Labour and the Tories. UKIP was wiped out and entirely replaced by the Brexit Party. The Liberal Democrats coming in second was a result I do not think was foreseen by anyone, nor the Greens doing better than the Tories. The colossal stink of the inability to deliver Brexit that clings to the Tories and Labour helped both Liberal Democrats and Greens, both being so far from power and out of the spotlight the last few years. Faced with parties run by Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn, “Vote them all out!” must have seemed like a coldly rational choice.

Some interesting results in Scotland:

In Scotland, the pro-Remain SNP won the biggest share of the vote, with just under 38%, giving it three MEPs.

The Brexit Party came in second place with a significantly lower percentage – 14.8% – followed by the Lib Dems with 13.9% and the Tories with 11.6% – meaning each party has one seat.

But Labour only received 9.3% of the vote – a loss in vote share of 16.6% – leaving it with no MEPs in Scotland for the first time.

It’s hard to say what these results indicate for UK domestic politics going forward, as traditionally MEP elections have been very poor indicators of the next general election. But the giant Brexit cockup is hugely hurting both Tories and Labour.

On the results from Europe as a whole:

oters from the 28 member states of the European Union have cast their ballot in what is the second biggest democratic exercise in the world.
Official projections showed parties committed to strengthening the European Union held on to two-thirds of seats in the EU parliament, though far-right and nationalist opponents saw strong gains.

With their multiparty systems, it is not surprising that the status quo is protected.

Perhaps the most powerful base, is the permanent administrative institution, versus individual political parties.

If the "Establishment" wants to be overrun by muslim hordes, so be it. It looks like Italy, Hungary are solid.

It is not unlike  ourSanctuary cities, where the will of the citizenry is ignored/overriden by bureaucraats--under the spells of government employee unions, judges, etc. And of course businesses.

Excerpt:

"Europe Will Not Be Europe"
Guy Millière

...

A European parliament placed under the influence of the Greens will almost certainly accelerate the slide towards more power given to the unelected members of the European Commission, and a phasing out of nuclear energy and fossil fuels. Policies favorable to still more immigration already are in preparation.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán continues to emphasize the dangers of Islamic mass immigration into Europe and has defined Hungary as "the last bastion against Islamization of Europe." Italy's Salvini has said that "Europe is threatened by Islamization" and could become an "Islamic caliphate". Most other "populist" leaders, however, did not take risks and chose not to address that issue. France's Marine Le Pen spoke about "extremist Islamism", but immediately added that most European Muslims integrate. In Britain, Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage did not say a word on the subject. Tommy Robinson, who made Islamic danger the main theme of his campaign, was subjected to constant harassment and barely received 2% of the vote. In the Netherlands, the leader of the Forum for Democracy party, Thierry Baudet, defended the same positions as Wilders, but avoided talking about Islam, and Wilders's party was basically defeated.

Europe's severe demographic problems were barely mentioned during the campaign. The idea that a change in population could occur was treated as if it were just a "rightist" fantasy. Facts, however, are hard to ignore. Fertility rates in almost all European countries are well below the replacement level of 2.1 children per woman. The figure for Italy is 1.45. In Germany it is 1.48; in Spain 1.5; in Hungary 1.4, and in Poland 1.38. The only country in continental Europe where a higher figure exists is France (1.97) -- but France also has the largest Muslim population in Europe, and all available data show that birth rates are far higher in Muslim families. The population of most European countries is decreasing. Italy is losing 250,000 inhabitants a year, equivalent to almost the population of Venice. Germany decided to welcome millions of immigrants to stop its population decline; today, 12% of German citizens are foreign-born. The massive influx of hundreds of thousands of Muslim immigrants in 2015 was a societal disaster. Integration did not occur. Most of the newcomers are still jobless and rely on welfare to survive. In addition, sexual assault cases increased.
