Can you think of 70s bands like Cream and King Crimson? I also have Alan Holdsworth.

I’m tying to understand this style of music but all recall are pop and disco

Thanks gang for helping Gefn out, I am over my head to be honest since I my era of music is mostly 80s related.

Ran across a song today...  I guess Randy Newman was a racist 40 years ago... Baltimore was no picnic in 1977.

@Sighlass

During my senior prom, the band started playing “short people” by randy Newman

My date who was six four leans down to me who is 5 feet, and starts singing.

Ugh! hate that song, but his rest isn’t bad.

Got “Court of the Crimson King” and “starlight and bible black” yesterday at the Princeton Record Exchange. This is the best place to buy or sell music.

Baltimore underwent the Inner Harbor revamp for the Bicentennial (1976), but get a few blocks from that, and it wasn't so good. It has gone downhill since. Especially since Sparrows Point (Bethlehem Steel) closed.

Is Deep Purple worth listening to?

I’m trying to get into more 70s bands that aren’t pop.

Depends on which Deep Purple you're talking about. They changed lineups a lot over the years, though on the whole, they're all pretty decent if you like hard rock.

Thank you @jmyrlefuller and @Smokin Joe
You are more than welcome!
THe 70s were an interesting decade, musically, from hard rock to the tail end of protest songs, to disco near the end. Like the late 60s, the early 70s were more my era, as funny as it seems to split decades so. The transition and the spectrum of music in between and leading up to the 80s leaves a rich lode of music for all tastes.
Another sampling, starting with Don McLean...

Here's another piece of the 70s, from 1971...(One of the longest from its day, referring to the day the plane went down with Richie Valens, the Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly on board).

Yes. Not too many lyrics today are based on the Bible, except perhaps in the Christian Music industry.
