Retired four-star general says "we have to be skeptical" of Trump administration's Afghanistan peace negotiations

Retired four-star General Jack Keane believes people should “be skeptical” of the Trump administration’s ongoing peace negotiations with Afghanistan.

Keane, who retired from the military in 2003 and now serves as the chairman of the board for the Institute for the Study of War, appeared Wednesday on Fox News'  America’s Newsroom to discuss the current U.S. efforts to bring the 18-year war to a close. The retired general, who formerly served as the vice chief of staff of the United States Army, warned that the ongoing talks had sidelined the Afghan government in favor of the Taliban.

“Here’s why we have to be skeptical,” Keane explained. “We have not begun any peace talks with the Afghan government at all. That is going to be very, very complicated, and we’ve got a long road in front of us."

Afghanistan is a quagmire of quicksand with no safe exist.  The 18 years of squandered USA treasury and blood appears to have no end.  The idiot George Bush launched this nightmare with no end because he was a weak fool.  If ever there was a situation to use tactical nuclear weapons, it was Afghanistan.  I would have flatten the entire country, leaving it an utter waste land.  That is the ONLY way to deal with these muslim enemies.

When Bush left office, the Taliban had control of 80% of the country.  The only areas free of their control were a couple cities.  He created by intent another Vietnam.  How clueless!

I am tired of the USA getting involved in aggressive actions with no intent of victory and enemy defeat.  I am also tired of presidents doing this without Congressional declarations of war.  We have lost trillions in this nonsense which has accomplished nothing.

In another thread, the women in Afghanistan are saying they do not want to go back to being subservient again.  Well, guess what, with the Taliban in control, all those women uttering those sentiments will soon be eliminated, mussie style.  It will be business as usual in no time.

This guy left the military 16 years ago.

It has been easy to be wary of Afghanistan for centuries.

Had it been my call, life as we know it would have ceased there about one year of less, following Sept. 11, 2001.

We would have issued a very clear warrning, to do it again anywhere that dared attack the US.

Exactly.  Bush being a weak minded fool left us in a weakened position in the world, and Obama only worsened it for this great nation.  And with Dumb and Dumber as presidents, countries like France, Germany, and Russia were quick to criticize.  Great allies the two of them, eh?

Rome and Great Britain were champions when they were strong and bordering on ruthless.  The USA with its weak minded leadership, you know, lead from behind Obama, ugggh!....have done nothing but strengthen the muslim forces that believe they can dominate the world.

We have yet to see the worst of it yet from the peaceful mussies.  When they unleash bio weapons on the world, with no care who they harm, if the western world does not rise up and exterminate every one of them from the attacking nations, then mankind on this planet will be doomed sooner than expected.

Bush blew the war in Afghanistan, we should have taken out anyone that resisted US Forces. That said the last person to successfully conquer and occupy Afghanistan was Alexander The Great in 350ish BC.
