Australia: Perpetrator of anti-Muslim hate crime against Muslim family turns out to be Muslim himself

What Sharaf-Deen Yusuf was trying to do is unclear. Did he think the incident would be reported as a hate crime without his getting caught, so that it would not be known that the perpetrator was a Muslim? Certainly we have seen many Muslims fake anti-Muslim hate crimes in the past; victimhood is currency these days, and “Islamophobia†claims bring political and often financial benefits to those who make them. But there is so little actual anti-Muslim bigotry that it has to be fabricated.
