“Can’t do it”: If we open the borders we’ll have poor people all over the world coming here, says … Bernie Sanders

AllahpunditPosted at 11:31 am on April 8, 2019

One hundred fifty-eight million in all or thereabouts, per a recent Gallup estimate — not all of them poor, of course, but surely most. Even if only 10 percent of that number actually made it across via a true open-borders policy, that would amount to a population larger than all but four U.S. states. And of course it would mean many millions more low-skilled immigrants competing for jobs with lower-skilled Americans. Sanders finds that problematic, to borrow a term.

The man’s clearly a vicious racist.

This worries me - if Sanders has the gumption to speak truthfully on this he may be a lot more dangerous than I thought.

It's just common sense though - why would any European country accept an undesirable immigrant that costs them thousands per month in welfare, health care, education, law enforcement and wage erosion when they can just give them a one-way ticket to the U.S. city of their choice?

Of course there are democrats who don't want to give the country away entirely, they just want enough new voters to cement their own hold on the reins of power.

Of course it's common sense.   The Dems were for border security before, and they will be again - just not while Trump is in the White House.    Trump has turned the Dems into cynical partisans, willing to subvert the national interest for political gain.

IMHO, it seems with Bernie, though you may not agree with him, generally speaks his mind and you at least know where he stands. I really can't say that for those who run against him either GOP/DEM.  Most provide lip service to a large flock of people hoping that they will follow them and vote for them at the polls.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Socialism has always required a strictly controlled system for it to work: in order to give away the most bennies to each person, they have to limit the number of takers and maximize the number of makers. Since immigrants tend to be "tired, poor huddled masses," a socialist state views them as undesirable, unless they can further the goal in some other way (i.e., politically).
