Southern border at 'breaking point' after more than 76,000 illegal immigrants tried crossing in February, officials say

More than 76,000 people tried to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in February — a "remarkable" leap that more than doubles the number of border apprehensions during the same period of time last year, and is also the highest number of any February in the past 12 years, according to officials.

The system is "well beyond capacity, and remains at the breaking point," U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan told reporters on Tuesday as the agency released the "record numbers" of those trying to enter the U.S. through the southern border.

Did you look at the graph?  Looks like illegal immigration has more than doubled under Trump.  It is no surprise because he talked big with no action.  Its human nature to recognize a bluff.  I have said this a few times in here.  Its a major mistake in parenting too.  Every parent knows you have to mean what you say.  The immigrants absolutely know that they will not be stopped.  Now we are reaping the rewards of the bad judgment of our President.

That's apprehensions, the one's they caught. Who knows how many others slipped over the border? My guess it's as much or more than 100K.

That's 1.2M people a year, more than the populations of 8 states in the union.

We don't have a crisis.

So, why in the heck did Trump sign a bill that allows for states to opt out of a border wall??? Secondly, plain and simple, we don't have time for the back and forth crap that is going on in Congress which will be vetoed by Trump and then challenged in courts which could take years.  The border needs to be closed completely.  All points of entry closed. No migration period.  No asylum period.  Arm the entire border with military.  Sorry folks, but push has come to shove.  Land mines??  Gruesome.  Yes.  Necessary?  It's really beginning to look that way.

We are losing our country and at a very rapid pace.

Pretty much.  The wall isn't going to happen.  Not now.   Hopefully, Trump has a 'plan B', otherwise each and everyone of us needs to realize we've lost our country and what that means.  We WILL be another France, Germany, Belgium, etc. 

I'm still waiting for his staunch supporters to weigh in on this.

It's almost like President Trump doesn't actually want to solve the problem but would rather keep the issue to stir up the base in 2020.  "Re-elect me and I will finally build the wall."

I don't understand why there is no other option except a wall that will be fought tooth and nail.  A wall President Trump made harder to construct by signing the last budget negotiation.

Anybody got a running total of how much new wall has been built since Trump declared a National Emergency?

I would think holding cells and immigration judges are called for when there are record breaking apprehensions.

I couldn't resist. I just received a mailer from the 'Trump Coalition' asking for money so that they can continue to secure our borders.  Really?  So I had to send back a response of  "No" with a note.  "No wall, and Trump signed a bill to allow states to opt out of a barrier.  I am saving my $$ to prepare".  I did find it interesting that they left a 'NO' option and wanted to know why.  They asked.  I responded.

To the best of my knowledge, very little new wall has been built at all this year (if any).  Video footage and pictures I've seen are from 2018.

The only approach that will stem the rising tide (until the border wall is built) is to xlose the border -- CLOSE it, permit NO crossings -- and use as many troops as required to patrol the entire length from Pacific to the Gulf.

But ... this probably won't happen.
Expect 50-75 million MORE illegals within the next 10-15 years.

Not much of a future to look forward to...

How about it @Right_in_Virginia?  I know it has only been a few weeks since President Trump declared a National Emergency but do you have any stats on progress?

I read "GOP could face emergency vote every 6 months" http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,353775.0.html I'm guessing the rats will ask for figures on how much emergency money has been diverted, from where, and what has been built before that vote.  If the Administration can't provide those numbers I expect the fake news will supply their own answers.

Definitely not.  Glenn Beck was absolutely 100% correct.  If things continue on the path that they are on, this country will be unrecognizable in 5 years.  You're estimate of 10-15 is very hopeful.  I don't think we have that much time.

...and to think one of Hillary's goals was a borderless Western Hemisphere.  She's getting her wish.  Just sayin'.

   It is now and has always been a Campaign issue and you doubters here should consider yourself fortunate because had he resolved this like he declared 'he alone' could do, we would be faced with the NEW enemy Alien that must be stopped with all platitudes for his 2020 run.
