Those exercises are nothing more than an expensive show of force. It pisses off China too. It's asinine to continue doing it in my opinion.

The U.S. has observed a rise in Chinese military activity in the South China Sea area over the last year, according to the top American military officer in the region.

It's an oil grab and an attempt to fortify their trade arteries. We'd probably do the same thing. China will obviously seek to increase its power and influence. I think we should give China our blessing in the South China Sea in exchange for some trade deals.

Geez, why don't you just hand over Taiwan while you are at it?

That is the eventual intent, and giving them expanded unchallenged footholds in the South China Sea only exacebrates that situation.
