Sen. Bernie Sanders joked Monday that he has a plan to highlight President Trump's difficulty telling the truth if he faces the president on the debate stage in 2020.

"Well, we'll bring a lie detector along," Sanders said on CNN to laughs from a studio audience. "And every time he lies, it goes beep. That would be the first thing."

Sanders, who last week launched another bid for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, said his criticism of Trump wasn't based on their differing political ideologies. Instead, the independent senator from Vermont said his opposition to the president was predicated on his character as a "fraud" and "pathological liar."

"So we are going to hold him accountable for what he said and for what he did," the self-described democratic socialist said on Monday. "He said he was going to provide healthcare to everybody. And then he proposes to throw 32 million people off their healthcare that they have."

"He said, you all remember, he said, 'I'm a different type of Republican. I'm not going to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid,' and he brings forward a budget that does just that," Sanders said of Trump. "So I think holding him accountable would be a good start in that debate."

I like Sanders, but her comment is a bit ridiculous.  If Trump brings a lie detector then should the rest of ALL the candidates -- we'll have a 'truth-0-meter' at the primaries and it will become a game show!

The bitter truth is that Bernie Sanders has NEVER done anything of consequence.  He has existed in Congress for what seems to be forever, and he has not accomplished one thing.  I recently asked a rabid Sanders supporter to name me one thing Sanders did in Congress, and he was speechless.

The UGLY TRUTH is that so many speak strongly about someone they believe in and yet cannot name one accomplishment.  28 years in Washington and this individual could not name one accomplishment by Bernie Sanders.  President Trump has been in office for two years, and I could rattle off a dozen or perhaps 20 accomplishments.  This bogus leech who has won the hearts of the mindless young with his free everything is a pompous *ss.

You can't do anything in Congress if the rest of the chamber is lined up against you. You can have the purest of motives and most right of ideas, and if corruption is entrenched in the legislative chambers (and that's definitely an arguable point), the reforms you seek will go nowhere.

Bernie's policies have never gone anywhere because 1) he refuses to join either the Democratic or Republican Parties, and 2) there aren't enough people in the Senate that have ever thought Sanders's solutions were workable. Bernie can't control what other people think.

jmy....   I agree to a degree with what you have said, but it begs one to see how totally correct my comments are.  If one is in Congress to represent the people of your state, it makes common sense to do what is necessary to affect changes you believe would benefit your constituents.  You stated the obvious.  Neither party would work with Sanders for 28 years, and yet Vermont keeps sending a person back to Congress that cannot do a thing for the state.  Not only are the people in Vermont idiots, so too their is their senator.

If Sanders were elected president, he would be the worst ever.  Congress would never work with him.  There would be no free everything because Congress would never go along with this fool.

The Dems are a disgrace to allow this commie to run on their ticket.  That is just how bankrupt they are.

Run a pre debate drug test on the lot of them, too.

If you have to pass a drug test to drive a semi or run an oil drilling rig, you should have to pass one to run a country, too.

(And check the Congress, while you're at it!!--random testing to verify ongoing eligibility.....)
