Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and Chuck Grassley have asked top national security officials to brief lawmakers following Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's pronouncement that Hezbollah terrorists have active cells in Venezuela and could use connections in Central America to enter the United States via the southern border.

The Texas and Iowa senators said Wednesday they asked Pompeo, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, and FBI Director Christopher Wray to inform them of the extent to which terrorists may be trying to enter illegally at the U.S.-Mexico border and what they're doing to prevent it.

"This information is extremely troubling," Cruz and Grassley wrote in the letter. "Effective border security not only addresses the ongoing problem of illegal immigration, but also prevents the cross-border movement of Special Interest Aliens (SIAs) and known or suspected terrorists (K/STs). SIAs are a broad category of individuals who pose a security threat to our homeland. The spectrum of K/STs and SIAs located in Venezuela may include not only Hezbollah terrorists, but also agents of Cuba, Iran, Russia and China."

Unfortunately the bill that Trump just signed allows for states to opt out of barriers.  Last count, 16 states are suing him for declaring a national emergency.  So obviously our southern borders will remain open and the issue will not be resolved as so many of us had hoped.

Our gov't (GOP included) is not for sealing the border period.  Ironically, they, like the politicians in Venezuela would rather line their pockets with money then secure our borders and ensure the safety and sovereignty of our country.

Given the legislation Trump just signed do you support the Emergency Declaration?  I certainly would have, but now it seems he can only build portions of wall where they will let him.

I was all for him declaring a national emergency, but that was before he signed the bill.  Now, it seems futile and has the potential to set precedent for abuse by the left. 

Secondly, if it makes it to the SCOTUS, I'm not so sure that they are going to rule in his favor.  He may have the authority to declare a national emergency but his authority to reapportion funding that was already approved by Congress for other projects may be a different story.

I agree, futile.  And he even gave them ammunition by saying he didn't need to declare.  We don't need another Obama style border fence.   We need a continuous wall.  I think Cruz knows how it could have been done without declaring emergency.  I know one thing; Trump should have never, ever signed the bill.

There were several people who  made suggestions as to how he could build a wall without declaring a national emergency. 

He shut the government down and the left called his bluff.  This could have all been avoided IMHO if he made this push within the first 6 mos. of his presidency.  The wall is what got him elected.  Why he waited till after the mid terms is questionable. 

I admit that I saw a slight glimmer of hope that he was going to be able to build the wall. That glimmer of hope is gone.  I'm back to dealing with the reality of what is happening at our border and losing our Republic.

I know, right?  The reality is smack in our faces as these caravans come one after another.  Our cities and the drug cartel.  Our families and friends who have to deal with drug addiction.  And "we" as a whole having to support these people who can't or won't provide for their families.  Did you see in the new about the latest migrant to die in border custody?  He was sick, his liver gave up but the media makes it sound as if we killed him.  Two children.  Also sick and the liberals make it out to be that they died because they were detained.  Even though they took them to the hospital on the taxpayer.  Lots of these people require medical treatment.  I have even seen them pushing people in wheel chairs.  Its such a scam and robbery.
