So don't file for unemployment, don't file for paid leave. It isn't mandatory. I have been unemployed in the past and not filed. I lived off savings instead. It is a matter of choice.

I made a decision that my wife didn't argue with much. She stopped working and raised our kids. I didn't want someone else to raise them. She restarted part time work when they both were in school. Full time when they were older. It worked out. We know who our kids are They know who their parents are.

Back before paid leave became an issue., years ago when I was pregnant and working (not many pregnant women in the workforce back then), my employer offered to give me 6 weeks of PAID leave because he felt that it was the right thing to do.  In fact, he left it up to me as to when I felt I was ready to come back. I returned within 5 weeks. 

We need to start making children and family priorities.  Our children ARE our future.
