He may also be setting the conditions where Dems can hang themselves with their own rope.   Already they've portrayed themselves as uncompromising in their opposition to border security.   I can't believe that will sit well with voters.

Maybe, but Trump has a way of arguing against himself. One of the proposals the left has made, even prior to the shutdown, was funding improvements to port of entry locations. Trump talks about smugglers following the wall, then turning left. Just yesterday, he tweets about the largest fentanyl bust - made at a port of entry. He basically justifies their offer.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

He basically did that, last October, with the active duty mobilization to the border. It fell flat, along with his phony promise of a 10% middle class tax cut.

He mobilized the military to the border in order to 'assist' border patrol with the incoming caravan(s).  He also agreed to allow the U.N. to decide who was granted asylum and what country (including the U.S.) they were going to be placed.  Our military was in part there to assist in processing paperwork.

That wasn't the first time a caravan mob had reached our borders only in that case and those following there were thousands rather than hundreds.

It would seem to me that would have been a very opportune time to declare a national emergency if he was going to declare one.

Again, his push for a border wall, should have been long ago.

They've been showing that they are uncompromising for years.  That opposition isn't new, nor is their push for amnesty.  IT didn't sit well with voters and that's why Trump won the presidency.

Except the caravan operates with the same MO they’ve used for a decade. A large group begins. Many peel off to stay in Mexico or return. Those that make it to the border are a number significantly less than the starting group. The vast number arrive at ports of entry to apply for asylum. Now, they have to wait on the other side, while they’re being processed. All that does is bolster the left proposal to augment ports to deal with the numbers. The ‘crisis’ of massed invaders is ginned up. People sense that, which is why the military deployments didn’t bring people to the voting booth in November.
