Two years after President Trump signed orders to hire 15,000 new border agents and immigration officers, the administration has spent tens of millions of dollars in the effort — but has thousands more vacancies than when it began.

In a sign of the difficulties, Customs and Border Protection allocated $60.7 million to Accenture Federal Services, a management consulting firm, as part of a $297-million contract to recruit, vet and hire 7,500 border officers over five years, but the company has produced only 33 new hires so far.

The president’s promised hiring surge steadily lost ground even as he publicly hammered away at the need for stiffer border security, warned of a looming migrant invasion and shut down parts of the government for five weeks over his demands for $5.7 billion from Congress for a border wall.

The Border Patrol gained a total of 120 agents in 2018, the first net gain in five years.

But the agency has come nowhere close to adding more than 2,700 agents annually, the rate that Kevin McAleenan, commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, has said is necessary to meet Trump’s mandated 26,370 border agents by the end of 2021.

This somehow not the fault of Trump or the GOP majorities in both houses of Congress for the last 2 years.  Damn media spilling the beans again. 9999hair out0000

I'm excited to know we now have almost as many border agents as we had when Trump was elected President. :patriot:

Hmmm... :pondering:

Wonder why all the keyboard warriors on the right don't rush out and take these jobs that pay one third more, give lavish benefits etc...seems like a perfect opportunity to make fantastic money and actually protect the border...

Let's put it this way...seeing the venomous replies to my posts pointing out the truth, warms my soul thinking of the angry tweets Trump is reading right now.

I do not support illegal immigration.  I think illegal immigration is a problem.  It would be a problem better solved by more agents, more immigration judges, more detention centers, streamlining legal immigration, and reducing the overgenerous American social safety net, than by building a steel union subsidizing border project.

I am disgusted that 2 years into Trump's reign Obama holds the record for employing border agents.  Aren't you?

Ehhh..... I refuse to give Obama credit for anything "good" in this country.  It just wouldn't be logical.

Does that answer your question?

Not really.  Facts are facts.  I'm perfect able to say Obama sucked, but Trump sucks too.  The deficit was terrible under Obama, it's even worse now.  The rest of the world laughed at Obama, Trump should wear clown make up.

I know your reply was meant to be a light-hearted reply.  Please don't take offense at my arguement.  I don't sweat you knocking the Kenyan at all, even though I'd guess we were both more let down by Trump than by Obama.  I know Obama lied to me less often.

I think you're are a smart poster, and easily consider you a benefit of spending time here.  2 years ago I couldn't give Obama credit either.  It took an even worse President to compare Obama with, because until Trump, Obama was the worst President of my life time.

What I'm trying to say is, even though I don't really believe it, I would be willing to admit Obama was a marginally worse President than Trump if just to be able to say I agree with my good friend @XenaLee

When the gov't gives you orders to stand down and your not allowed to carry the appropriate weapons and you are out gunned by the Mexican drug cartel, it just might have something to do with it.

Personally, if I were a BPA I don't think the whole "catch and release" policy would work for me.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

So after two years of the Trump administration nothing has changed since Obama....

Geez I  think the GOP should run a presidential candidate in 2020 who would do something about the border...

@Oncler
Does it matter that Obama had more agents when they weren't allowed to do their jobs? Your point is accurate, but the same as having an arsenal to defend yourself but not a single round to chamber. While I agree with your points for going a ways to solve the problem, it will never be solved without the addition of a barrier, concrete, steel, geographic or human to secure our border and stop as much illegal traffic of people, arms, drugs, terrorists or any other contraband.

You do a disservice by inferring that the only issues at our border pertains to illegal immigration  :nono:. Walls work, the Chinese, Hadrian, Israelis, Hungarians and others now this, Hell even the Russians and East Germans knew walls work.........although they used their for a different reason.
