Biggest USPS stamp price jump since 1991 goes into effect

By Michael Burke - 01/27/19 03:04 PM EST

A 5-cent price increase for the the United States Postal Service's (USPS) "forever" stamp goes into effect Sunday, marking the largest price hike for the stamp since 1991.

The USPS originally proposed the increase from 50 to 55 cents in October, and the increase was improved in November by regulators.

The 10 percent hike is the largest since 1991, when the price of the stamp jumped 16 percent from 25 cents to 29 cents.

I think the last time I used a stamp was to mail my mother a letter from Camp Wannasmokareefa.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Well, I'm an old fashioned gal.  I still write checks to pay bills and still write letters.  I thought I was smart getting a coil of Forever stamps back in December, but about a week ago, I knocked the coil off my desk and it rolled somewhere parts unknown.  I can no longer get on my hands and knees to look for it, so if I can't find someone to do so, guess I'll have to buy another coil.  Doh!

How About, . . . . . we conduct Congressional hearings into fiscal irresponsibility in the USPS?

You and I both know that no matter what gets dug up nothing will happen because of it, . . . . BUT:

It might tie up a few Dems to keep them Off their impeachment and Russia stupidity.

The fact that you've thought of it means it's probably in the works already.

Great. As slow as they have been getting my payments to the vendors, now they'll come back for insufficient postage....

If it's making a buck, Tax it till it's not, then subsidize it.

Make the Post Office competitive?

The higher the cost of postage, the less
it will be used.

Something about supply and demand.

Didn't you get the memo? When you're perfect, you don't need to proofread.

I'm not one of the fossils around here but I am old enough to remember when it was highly unusual to see a typo in the newspapers or magazines. Now we have morons using the wrong words for things and then publishing them on a daily basis. I know this is a case of someone using the wrong word to describe something because I hear Millennials using the wrong words all the time trying to sound smart.

Hey, you don't know, maybe the increase asked for was actually less and was improved by the regulators.
