I wouldn't be so quick to condemn Trump for this move.  It kinda became inevitable.  I see it as a 'live to fight another day' thing.

Trump has not abandoned the wall and we will get it, but the government shutdown had begun to erode his popularity.

That's how I see it.   The Dems had the brass balls not to fold, since the mainstream media has their back and paints Trump as the villain for shutting down the government.

It's time to declare the National Emergency and put available military funds to work.

Nope, I'm a casual observer studying human nature. The only thing I think good will come out of this is that people will stop putting so much faith in politicians and the government. They are not your saviors not are they here to help. The more you believe they are, the more you will be disappointed.

Maybe Conservatives will get back to wanting limited government with as little centralized power as possible.

We may be able to get a wall or some sort of improved security if we stop playing the culture of personality and start treating this like an engineering project.

Open/nonexistent borders are a matter of faith among the Rats, right up there with Abortion.  This will be a cave of epic proportions.   :2popcorn:

Let's not forget to send a thank you note to the six Republican senators who sealed this deal.

Nice attempt to dodge responsibility, @Right_in_Virginia . This one's all on Trump. He's now Charlie Brown to Lucy Pelosi.

He got pwned on this one, as badly as the Zags destroyed Santa Clara last night...in Santa Clara.

No need to look, final score was 98-39.

Comes with the territory if you sign up for a government job.  Save for a rainy day, like the rest of us.

Sometimes people can't afford to save. Sometimes there are circumstances that people have to live paycheck by paycheck. Have you considered that? A shutdown should not be normal. Have a hissy fit is something that our founding fathers didn't think of when they setup this Government. They expected the people to act like ADULTS!

Tell that to the workers who missed their paychecks.

You should be glad I'm not in charge!  If I was, about 2/3rds of them would be missing their paychecks permanently!

Only because the Press painted the picture.  Have they even ONCE mentioned Pelosi's excessive travelling on our dime?

Well, we've known for a long time that the mainstream media is an enemy to democracy as we know it.  And, while the shutdown has had little effect on most people, the media has successfully painted a picture of starving government workers.

I think Trump realized that and decided to open the government.  The wall is popular with the majority of people and border security is popular, and stopping the drain on our country involved with caring for people who have no right to be here is also popular.

But, he had to deal with the negative vibe of the closed government before it became the overriding issue.

Once we passed day 30, that was a real possibility and opportunity, but no one took it.

SCOTUS will NOT continue to back the ninth court.  They're already making a dramatic ruling against gun control.

I disagree.   The NEA represents a delegation of authority from the Congress to the President.   Trump's merely exercising the power Congress gave him.

I think what @mystery-ak is saying is that with this cave impeachment is a fait accompli.

I certainly hope that is not what @mystery-ak is saying.  That would make us as weak and ineffectual as the cowards in our own party.

There are NO grounds to impeach Trump.  None.

He'd damn well better have been spending this shutdown time making an ironclad plan to do just that. Or his political career is finished. Just a fact.

SCOTUS will NOT continue to back the ninth court.  They're already making a dramatic ruling against gun control.

They agreed to hear a case, I guess that's progress.  I don't bet on SCOTUS outcomes anymore because Roberts can't be trusted to not pull a decision out of his fanny like he did with Obastardcare.  I would bet on one involving the wall...they will kill it no matter what Circuit produces a ruling.

He wanted us to read his lips, "I'll build the wall."  I have experience with reading Presidential lips.
