Good news: Illinois will be spared when the world ends

J.B. Pritzker, the new governor of Illinois, has begun his reign with the symbolic signing of his state back on to the Paris climate agreement:

It means Illinois will abide by the Paris agreement that aims at reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by up to 28 percent by 2025. Former President Barack Obama signed the U.S. onto the Paris accord in 2016 but President Donald Trump withdrew months later.

Pritzker's order also directs the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to monitor the Trump administration's environmental proposals and look for ways to "protect Illinoisans from environmental harm."

This means Illinois will be spared when the world ends in 12 years, right? Well, no, I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. But if you do especially want Illinois to be spared for some reason, perhaps it will at least make you feel better about yourself.

Paris was a nonbinding agreement. More importantly, its terms would not be nearly ambitious enough to save the world, were its continued existence truly threatened as some contend.

Not much chance of that, but be of good cheer:  the "odds" are very good that the governor will wind up in jail.

 :wtf:

Illinoisans (leave out the last "i") are the residents of Illinois, not to be confused with Illini (members of an Indian tribe, made famous by the "Fighting Illini").

When I was last there it was Illini. But then that was better than three decades ago. Last I went back was for my honeymoon.

So is it 'Illinoiyans' then?

I certainly knew it was not Illi-noisy-ans.

Illinois has bigger immediate problems that a meteor or climate change
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I used to go to southern Ill when I was a kid to visit relatives...and get me out of my parent's hair, lol.

On a whim a couple of years ago, I looked up the small town they lived in. It was a coal mining town.  It is now a ghost town....the same with the surrounding towns that I can remember.

The bad news is that Illinois' ex-governors will no longer have any car owners for whom to make license plates.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

  • That is the problem with everything. They try and make it better without realizing the old is fine.

Hopefully this one will join them in the prison work shop.

He was good buddies with Blago and *rumored* to be willing to pay off Blago for Senate seat...there was a tape of the two talking about it and played for the voters..but the voters voted his fat ass into the Gov mansion....
