Can't figure out why Trump would cave on this considering that Pelosi isn't giving him squat.

POTUS said this is her "prerogative" --- a fascinating choice of words. 

This was his chance to make his case before a national audience to explain the state of the union's Southern border as an open sieve placing a substantial drain on America's limited resources.

I suspect the cables and networks would have treated it as a rally and would not have carried the speech.

Now POTUS can take a victory lap at the SOTU with Her Craziness seated behind him.

She called Trump's move a "bad decision" and said that she would give a series of three speeches as an alternative. She said she’d give the first speech in Detroit, the second at the border and a third at Ellis Island.

"Bad decision by @potus," she tweeted. "Go to America and give the nation a #SOTU. Sent the written form to petty Pelosi."

It could be a chess move or maybe something else is going on.

Maybe drafting the speech isn’t going well – not boffo enough for showman Trump and they postponed watching for changes in events.

Or, if it seems Trump’s giving in on something, maybe he’s drawing the speaker in for something else he’s got planned? Or, maybe Trump simply has got a deal working in the background with Nancy?

A lot of possibilities with this move.

I look at it more like appeasing a child who's holding their breath in protest. I think most people ultimately will see it that way as well.

Not exactly 4 dimensional chess, just basic human psychology. Besides, holding a SOU address in the House every year wasn't a campaign promise. Building a wall was.

I felt better this morning when I thought of it in terms of Trump saying, "The Wall matters so much to me that I'm willing to give up the SOTU for it."

One of the criticisms by some of Trump is he's petulant and unstatesmanlike. So why are some of these same critics crowing over his decisions to de-escalate the pissing contest with Pelosi, who's clearly willing to blow up the southern end of the Capitol in order to 'beat' Trump?

Who expected her to start being reasonable now?

There are reports some in her party are beginning to grumble about her intransigence on the wall. Trump conceding her authority in the House on the SOU issue will only increase pressure on her.

Funny how so many folks are just aghast at the idea that Trump might take the high road.   

This SOTU flap is the pettiest of the petty.   Trump looks good this morning, and Pelosi looks bad - churlish and small.   

Trump has also offered to trade wall funding for a three-year extension of status for the Dreamers, as well as standing invite for weekly meetings at the White House to address immigration.    Pelosi?   She said no before the President could even announce his proposal. 

The best way to encourage cracks in the Democratic wall is to take the high road.   When he finally gets to give the SOTU - in the majestic setting of the House chamber where it belongs - he will have the time and the opportunity to lay into the Democrats on all fronts.    And it will arrive in citizens' homes without the filter of the mainstream media.
