Trump: I told Sanders to stop briefings because press covers her 'rudely'
By Jordan Fabian and Brett Samuels - 01/22/19 10:46 AM EST

President Trump on Tuesday said he directed White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to stop holding regular briefings, citing unfair treatment by the news media.

“The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the ‘podium’ much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press,” Trump tweeted. “I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway!”

Press briefings, which used to be a near-daily occurrence, have become a rarity in the Trump White House. Sanders has not provided an on-camera briefing for more than a month, including the duration of the partial government shutdown.

“The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the ‘podium’ much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press,” Trump said on Twitter. “I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway! Most will never cover us fairly & hence, the term, Fake News!”

Good.

All they are are opportunities for the press to shoot the messenger.

The press briefings are not solely for them to 'get the word out.' They are for Q&A on those subjects and follow up on others. That's what they don't want. The previous admin did the same thing during uncomfortable news cycles.

And why do the press think they're entitled to harass some bureaucrat?

Because the only way you get answers to questions, from any admin, is to have them challenged on their statements, policies, and assertions. If Sanders is just a bureaucrat and isn’t going to perform her duties, why shouldn’t she get furloughed? With this approach, she’s the epitome of non-essential personnel.
