Mexican pipeline explosion kills at least 20

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - At least 20 people were killed and 54 were injured on Friday when a pipeline ruptured by suspected fuel thieves exploded in central Mexico as dozens of people tried to fill up containers, state and federal authorities said.

Mexican television footage showed flames leaping into the night sky in the municipality of Tlahuelilpan, in Hidalgo state north of Mexico City, as people shouted and cried for help.

“The preliminary report I’ve been passed is very serious, they’re telling me 20 people have died, charred,” Hidalgo’s Governor Omar Fayad told Mexican television.

That was as predictable as the sun rising in the east, whenever you have people breaking into gas lines to steal, the danger is there and it will happen again unless something is done.

Up to 66 dead, 85 missing. It must have happened in a heavily inhabited area as most areas around Mexico City would be.

Yikes!  I saw that on Bookface.  Death toll would have been a lot less if people weren't lined up trying to catch some of the gasoline in 10-gallon water jugs.

If one says that's natural selection, it's also natural selection for the gringos and other Americans actually to be buying the Cartel's produce. Pretty stupid.

I couldn't tell, who lit the cigarette? I saw an awful lot of stupid going on, I'm just surprised it doesn't happen more often. I also wonder what the incidence of cancers are among those fools taking gas showers breathing in those concentrated fumes, do you think they wore the bandannas over their faces as a disguise, protection from fumes, or both.

It is a cultural thing.

In California they were stealing guard rails, copper pipes and power lines and taking them to recycling centers for money... The stuff would disappear overnight. So now you have to have ID among other things to recycle metal in the state...

So wonderful importing third world culture to "multi-culture" ours...

Our company was hired to rehab a warehouse in Anaheim,Ca a number of years back. The homeless had stripped it bare, but the guy that stripped the lines from the Edison transformer, that was energized at the time, was not some clueless bum. By the way thieves stripping out copper wire, and aluminum A.C. coils and other metal was and is an America problem and not confined to California. I did know of one plumbing company that was doing really well replacing stolen back flow preventers in Irvine,Ca. My boss and I were pretty convinced they were drumming up their own business.
