 You cannot be denied life-saving care in this country  regardless of your ability to pay. But there are a lot of politicians who will tell people that you can’t get emergency care unless you can afford insurance. I know people who do believe that. The hospital I currently work at, have what’s called “charity care.”  We have had people that have been admitted to the hospital that have absolutely no insurance but  medical conditions warrant a hospital admission.   Of course the hospital has to eat that cost

It opened January 31, 1990 almost 29 years ago.  And as I also recall there were lines around the corner with people waiting to try their first ever McDonalds hamburger.

My mother was a Brit.  Married my father and became a grateful US citizen.  Tons of cousins in Great Britain.  The difference between the care my mother received and the care her cousins received was night and day.  Many of the meds and procedures routinely available in the US were not available to her British family members.  My SIL is originally from Canada.  She is a healthcare professional.  Guess what she does when her parents have needed surgery or treatment for a serious illness.  She brings them to the US.    She told me that doctors are unavailable from Halloween on because they have made all the money they are allowed to make so they essentially close up shop.  My church us always providing housing and other help for Canadians to come here for cancer and heart treatment.

The free market has both good and bad points, but it has given us excellent healthcare for the most part.  The more government intrudes, the lower the quality of care.

Being about 60 miles from the Alberta CA border, I have made that same point before wrt Canucks. We get a lot of Canadian traffic here on 'medical holiday' - Though not as much as before - The cost of medical here in the states often prevents them now. But even so, when it is a dire thing, they often necessarily come here.

First of all, that isn't happening. Medicaid for the poor is more robust than most working people can afford... All services paid with zero deductible - Go see what that would cost you on the open market.

Secondly, the statement is a lie. When charities ran our health system, government (county and state) was a very small part of it, and it worked better than what is here today.

YES THEY DO. It is prerequisite in the medicaid system to maintain at least bi-annual checkups in order to maintain qualification. Often doctors demand quarterly checkups...

Your desired utopia already exists in many many European, Scandinavian and South American countries, oh and Canada too! My daughter is a trauma certified RN who did a lot of time in ERs.  You should hear her first person accounts of how the system is being grossly abused at present.  It will curl your hair.

My wife is a Medical Biller and has regular conferences to maintain her Certified Professional Coder credentials, she brings home plenty of stories from the other Billers who cover all facets of medical billing both private practices and hospitals not to mention all the medicare and obamacare rules bullshit. It's really not.

Most everyday people would be taxed far less than the amount they currently have to spend on healthcare. It'd be extremely beneficial for most people. I really won't feel bad for people worth hundreds of millions of dollars when they have to pay more taxes so we can guarantee education to our young people and healthcare to all citizens that need it. The most successful people in the country wouldn't be what they are without our country. They have benefited greatly from the system we all contribute to. They should be honored to pay more taxes to strengthen our nation against the future. Investments in health and education are what will keep us ahead of the rest of the world.

With all due respect...I Totally disagree on everything!  Education for young people?  That is baloney.  The KIDS do not want to learn anymore.  Maybe home schooling.  Unions in our school system, keep bad teachers IN.  ALL THEY WANT IS MORE  MONEY, MORE MONEY....same result.  It is NOT MONEY that is the problem. Public schools, which I pay for and have no children using it...SUCK!

 Having health insurance does not guarantee you will stay alive.  Silly notion.   Some times it is the doctor who will kill you.
Why pick on the small percent who are ALREADY paying for most of our taxes?  Almost 50% PAY NOTHING...and receive back money from those who do pay.  For some...IT WILL NEVR BE ENOUGH WHAT A WEALTHY PERSON PAYS.

Each state has a fund for medicaid usage ..they run out of funds with so many ILLEGALS using it for Free. for ORGAN TRANSPLANTS, WEEKLY DIALYSIS...FOR FREE.  ONE CASE IN ARIZONA....the illegals used up all their Medicaid so the next illegal who wanted his organ transplant was denied.  It normally costs us American taxpayers one million dollars for each medicaid organ transplant for illegals. The LEFTS were all upset this man, ILLEGAL,  could not  get his FREE ORGAN TRANSPLANT. The money had run out!  So, that means if a citizen, American, needed medicaid help, they would not have any! (Under ER rules, they could go to hospital, but I don't know about finding an organ)

 I believe there are doctors and hospitals in Mexico? Then I wonder, too much drug use or Tequila use for a failed liver, on an illegal?

 NOT FREE TO AMERICANS WHO PAY TAXES.
