Rubio's typical stump speech would always mention his parents and what would he say about his mother? I know some will recognize it when they hear it,  here's a quote from an article that summarizes it, it's that last sentence:

In 1971, Marco was born in Miami to Cuban-born parents who came to America following Fidel Castro's takeover. When he was eight years old, Rubio and his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where his father worked as a bartender at the Sams Town Hotel and his mother as a housekeeper at the Imperial Palace Hotel. In 1985, the family returned to Miami where his father continued working as a bartender at the Mayfair House Hotel until 1997. Thereafter he worked as a school crossing guard until his retirement in 2005. His mother worked as a Kmart stock clerk until she retired in 1995.

Karel Gott: Czech singer dubbed 'Sinatra of the East' dies

A Czech singer who sold millions of records and was known as the "Sinatra of the East" has died aged 80.

Karel Gott released almost 300 albums, starting in the mid-1960s, selling tens of millions of copies around the world.

Gott was popular behind the Iron Curtain and became known as the "golden voice of Prague", but he also found fame in Western Europe, especially in Germany.

He died late on Tuesday after a long and serious illness, his wife said.

Diahann Carroll, Pioneering Actress on 'Julia' and 'Dynasty,' Dies at 84

Diahann Carroll, the captivating singer and actress who came from the Bronx to win a Tony Award, receive an Oscar nomination and make television history with her turns on Julia and Dynasty, has died Friday. She was 84.

Carroll died at her home in Los Angeles after a long bout with cancer, her daughter, producer-journalist Suzanne Kay, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Over the course of the 1960s, Carroll built her name on the Broadway stage before being cast in 1968 as the lead in the sitcom Julia. The show was unusual in that most sitcoms featuring black women up to that point had featured them in stereotypical maidservant roles, whereas Julia was a typical, working/middle-class nurse. (Even so, the more militant black-nationalists were unhappy with the show because it didn't disseminate their own propaganda.) After Julia, she went on to star as the title character in the dramedy film Claudine, which earned Carroll a nomination for an Academy Award. In the 1980s she was cast in a role in the primetime soap opera Dynasty. She continued acting well into the 2010s.

Frequently married and often dating, her lovers included agent Monte Kay, actor Sidney Poitier, news anchor David Frost, and singer Vic Damone. She died October 4 from cancer.

Legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker dies at 80
London (CNN) — Ginger Baker, notorious hellraiser and celebrated drummer in the supergroup Cream, has died at the age of 80 at a hospital in the United Kingdom.

"Dad passed away peacefully," his daughter Nettie Baker told CNN in a statement. "He was in no pain and had recently been able to see and speak to his children, close family and special friends."

Psychedelic rock band Hawkwind, which worked with Baker, tweeted their condolences on his death Sunday.

Thanks @Gefn.  I was aware that Baker had been very ill, but it doesn't mitigate the huge loss.  In my youth, Cream was "da bomb." Some of the best rock music ever made.

Richards will outlive all of us.  I think his body parts have been replaced by mechanical devices.  All he has to do is go to the nearest garage for regular maintenance.

Scientists should be studying his genes. Can you imagine how long he could live if he had eaten right,exercised,and gotten plenty of sleep?

Looked it up, and Richards father lived to 84, and his mother 91.  So base genetics may be a little at play here.  Still of course he has still defied the longevity odds with his lifestyle.

It's also possible that, had Richards lived a healthy lifestyle, he might have been hit by a bus while crossing the street.  Much as scientists can come up with statistics that say, if you do this and don't do that, odds are you will live longer, bottom line is that no one can predict with any meaningful accuracy how long any of us are going to live, no matter what we do or don't do. 

My Dad used to use the analogy of the old time bakery.  He'd say, when they take your number off the hook, it's your turn.    And that's about it.

That band had some serious talent. Badge is one of my favorites.

    It still amazes me what some people can do when they're hooked on heroin. Most of the addicts I knew, including myself, weren't worth a $hit.
