Trump threatens to close 'Southern Border entirely' if Dems don't fund wall
By Chris Mills Rodrigo - 12/28/18 08:02 AM EST

President Trump on Friday threatened to "close the Southern Border entirely" if Democrats do not agree to provide money to "finish" building a wall on the Mexican border.

Trump made the threat as a partial government shutdown enters its seventh day with no end in sight.

The shutdown began on Saturday after Democrats rejected demands from Trump that $5 billion be included for the wall in a measure to keep the government open.

I'd be pretty much for this even if the wall is fully-built...!

Close the border means no more products going across either...RAM Trucks, Ford Truck engines?, Johnson Controls batteries, etc., etc..  Not saying it would be a bad thing necessarily (much more effective than tariffs)...just saying it would affect a lot of industries that have located "S. of the Border, down Mexico Way!".

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

That's a lot of industries who either fled union demands, environmental regulations, taxes, or some other government policy (or a combination) to make a (sometimes just better) profit.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Yeah, agreed...I guess I am just saying that the lobbyist/political pressure to "re-open" would be massive...the politicians are fairly well "owned".

When you invest in a chaotic and lawless state like Mexico, sometimes it comes back to bite you.

I've no problems with this.
That stuff could be loaded on boats, then shipped north.

Perhaps via rail connections -- but, those connection points would have to be HEAVILY policed and monitored to prevent illegals from sneaking through.

CLOSE THE BORDER.
That's jes' fine with me!

He has promised this 3 times before in the last 6 months.
I'd guess it's better than him saying "I'm gonna NUKE EM, from Space, to be sure".

  • WE are NOT ok!
I'm still trying to figure out his strategy on this.  We will have a new Congress in a couple of days, then what?
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
