NYPD seems to say this is probably just a transformer explosion but it probably made a lot of people uneasy and sounds like quite a few lost some power.  Situation is ongoing.

NEW YORK (KGTV) -- An explosion in Queens, New York turned the sky an eerie shade of blue Thursday night.

Video posted on social media shows the sky glowing a light blue color as an explosion could be seen off in the distance.

WABC reported that the incident was caused by a transformer explosion at a power plant.

I posted a link to a youtube channel in the lounge that may be of interest to you all. Space weather news. About all they show is actual data (streams) from satellites and other ground-based monitoring devices.

With all the pics and videos posted, haven't seen one that was relatively close to the substation where this was going on...
