Personally, love Def Leppard. Can take or leave the other bands / singers. Though in HS I guess everyone I knew thought Stevie Nicks was hot.

I had hoped that the Rock and Roll hall of fame would have members that were instrumental (no pun intended) in the creation, or at least the enhancement, of the music genre's they've played.
Roxy Music, to me, is the only one on this list that fits the bill.
The rest were imitators of styles that already existed.
This would be fine, if their contributions furthered or exceeded their forerunners.

Roxy Music definitely deserves it. So does The Cure. One of a kind originals.

Def Leppard, too, I think, but not for being the first in their style. Although I thought they were kinda cheezy back in the eighties they've since grown on me.  They popularized the whole twin lead guitars (and one armed drummer) thing and alot of their stuff is really well done.

   Use to have some Cure but haven't been able to locate it for awhile, probably someone borrowed it and never brought it back, the rest, meh.

Roxy probable is my fave of the list, The Cure did their part for Dark Wave music. Stevie I am not sure how much she actually composed (leave that up to others). The Zombies was a little before my time but I remember a few songs by them (figure they are a solid nomination). @pookie18  will know more about them. Def had their fans and a string of hits. Radiohead was a little after my time so I don't know a lot about them. Janet Jackson is the PC nomination that IMHO doesn't belong.

It is music and like all music is subjective to the individual... Being I am a popcorn eater and not a musician of any merit (can read music and play horribly a few instruments), I will leave it up to others.

I throw out a few Cure songs (Mp3 format) every so often, let me know if you want a ping, I will try to remember. Hate you missed my big "The Essence" post a few weeks (months) ago. @corbe They sounded almost exactly like "The Cure" just without the publicity.

Um, no. I grew up in a preppy town in Mercer county. People didn’t go to the shore. Girls didn’t have big hair. Everyone dressed preppy and education was paramount.

Cleveland is a great city, the ideal for a R'n' R HOF is great but the musical snobbery of Rolling Stone got in the way.  And some of it seems like a popularity contest. Mind you, some of the choices are spot on.

I guess, Peppermint Rainbow will have to wait another year.

A nice cover by a girl's group called "It's my party", if I remember correctly, they are out of California. Peppermint Rainbow hailed from the DC/Baltimore area.

In the Peppermint Rainbow video, the guy with glasses is their drummer; but as one can see, this is some sort of staged presentation.
