Rupert gave a talk entitled The Science Delusion at TEDx Whitechapel, Jan 12, 2013. The theme for the night was Visions for Transition: Challenging existing paradigms and redefining values (for a more beautiful world). In response to protests from two hardcore materialists in the US, the talk was taken out of circulation by TED, relegated to a corner of their website and stamped with a warning label.

Room for discussion was made, but those who condemned the talk never showed up. The vast majority of those who spoke out were outraged, including those who'd never heard of morphic resonance. Ironically, before the banning the video had a modest 35,000 views; since then its clones have been watched over 4 million times.

At TEDxWhitechapel on January 13, 2013, Rupert Sheldrake gave a provocative talk in which he suggests that modern science is based on ten dogmas, and makes the case that none of them hold up to scrutiny. According to him, these dogmas — including, for example, that nature is mechanical and purposeless, that the laws and constants of nature are fixed, and that psychic phenomena like telepathy are impossible — have held back the pursuit of knowledge.

TED’s scientific advisors have questioned whether his list is a fair description of scientific assumptions — indeed, several of the dogmas are actually active areas of science inquiry (including whether physical ‘constants’ are really unchanging) — and believe there is little evidence for some of Sheldrake’s more radical claims, such as his theory of morphic resonance, and claim that the speed of light has been changing. They recommended that the talk be should not be distributed without being framed with caution. Accordingly, we have reposted his talk here, with the above cautionary introduction. We invite scientists, skeptics, knowledge-seekers and supporters — and Sheldrake himself, if he’s willing — to view and discuss the talk.

I was "triggered" by the word "banned."

I am willing to listen to what the skeptic scientists are saying and not minimize their thoughts. It is your side that will not allow even a smidgen of credibility to the side that disagrees with you.

You have everything backwards, I'm afraid.

How much do you hear in the MSM or in the "reputable" scientific journals about sunspot activity affecting the Earth's temperature?  Virtually NO info.  And yet the sunspot activity seen in the 20th Century nicely explains the very modest but measurable increase in temperature and also indirectly but rigorously explains (via Henry's Law) the concurrent increase in atmospheric CO2--which increase originally tempted scientists to blame the observable modest warming in the 20th Century on the documented CO2 increases in the 20th Century.

In short, the warming from the sunspots was the cause of the CO2 increases, not the result thereof.

The astrophysicists and atmospheric scientists who discovered this overall explanation of the association between planetary temperature and atmospheric CO2 several years ago have actually demonstrated the basic mechanism of planetary warming by sunspots through cloud chamber experiments at CERN.  The CERN facility was able to mimic the sunspots' electromagnetic radiation ("solar wind") to show that sunspots decrease the cloud cover on our planet, thereby increasing the infrared radiation reaching our earth, including our oceans, of course.  The CO2 evolution from the oceans increases from the warmer oceans as a matter of simple ocean chemistry.

The warming seen in the 20th century essentially stopped in the late 1990s when the unusually high sunspot activity of the 20th Century essentially stopped.

You didn't know any of this, my friend @Dexter, because unlike me, you are not a scientist and also unlike me, you trust scientists to be unbiased.  Heck, all of the major journals are involved in a bona fide conspiracy to promote AGW alarmism.  AGW "deniers" get incessantly trashed, and their articles get banned from mainstream circulation.  (The media plays along with the liars, of course.)  That's because the academic types who promote Socialist crap in our universities are also in control of our universities' science departments.

As the Brazilian foreign minister recently declared, the AGW hysteria really is the result of a Marxist plot.
